1980 Senate elections:

I couldn't find a county-level data for Colorado.

Red: Democratic
Blue: Republican

Orange indicated a Democratic runner-up to Russell Long in Louisiana's jungle primary race

Kalwejt - I'd be interested in seeing a map of which counties have never voted for one major party for President from 1960-2008 (i.e. all Democrat, all GOP, all Dem or 3rd party, all GOP or 3rd party, etc.)

I'll work on it.

Thanks for the 88 map. Is it possible for a 2000 map? I'm wondering how Buchanan stacked up against Nader & where he got 3rd.

Green: Ralph Nader (Green)
Blue: Pau Buchanan (Reform)
Yellow: Harry Browne (Libertarian)

And, obligatory, with eliminating major party candidates...

Nader: 500 EVs
Browne: 27 EVs
Buchanan: 11 EVs

Kalwejt, I already have a thread specifically for presidential primaries. Your maps make me sad. Sad

You see, you're doing a great map with shades. I'm sticking with simplier ones.

PiS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_and_Justice
PO: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civic_Platform

They both look pretty much like the US Republican Party to me, but then again I'm not Polish.

PiS is like the ugliest parts of the Democratic coalition of the past, and PO is like the ugliest parts of the Democratic coalition of the present. Tongue (Uglyness defined from a leftwing perspective, of course.)

Lewis explained it better that I possibly could.

Samoobrona map is not quite what I would have expected.

Especially 40th district.

Doing map for 2001 is pointless, since SLD won in every single district.

It's hard to get online data for 1997, 1993 and 1991 (1991 would be the best: there were 29 parties in Sejm).

None of major Polish parties (ones with parliamentary seats) would fit comparison to the Republican Party. First of all, none of these parties can be really described as economically conservative. PO have economically conservative roots (or, as we call it, liberal), but disavowed neoliberalism a long time ago and, ironically, PiS, while in power, conducted much more conservative policy, despite their "solidary state" BS.

So, following Lewis' comparison:

PiS: Social/ideological nuts, while largely progressive on economy, much like old Dixiecrats
PO: Current Democratic "moderate heroes"/DLC fellows
SLD: Liberal Democrating wing
PSL: Rural Blue Dogs

Outside of nclib-requested map, I'm working on a map comparing 1924 John W. Davis performance with 1928 Al Smith performance.

We win all those NY counties & Buckley still goes down!?

And by margin of 44.9 to 54.2%

NY can be like one giant Delaware: you win in New Castle county and you don't have to care about the rest Tongue
