Actually I wouldn't support the Know Nothings because they were Prohibitionists. And I would support Catholic immigrants coming, and also support proselytization of and conversion efforts toward them.
Would you have been a Democrat back then as you are now, given that their stance on slavery ranged from indifference to outright support?
