Safe to say that the Trump bump is over again. We have seen this pattern before. Trump going up or down only to return back to -9 to -10.

If he would just shut his mouth for 5 seconds and keep his Twitter silent for even longer, his approval would probably be pretty good.

Unhappy with the result, Trump says there is "something going on" with the Fox poll:

Quote
"Well, Fox has always given me -- I'll tell you, Fox is a lot different than it used to be, I can tell you that. ... Fox has changed. And my worst polls have always been from Fox. There's something going on at Fox, I'll tell you right now. And I'm not happy with it."

https://www.cnn.com/2019/08/19/politics/donald-trump-fox-news/index.html

As I posted in another thread, this is the Trump filter:

Good numbers for Trump = real.  Bad numbers for Trump = fake.

It applies to polls, economic news, or anything else.

The delusion isn't limited to Trump himself, but to many of his supporters.  I just don't get the madness.  It's got to be some kind of mental illness on those supporters who claim falsehoods at fact.

Nothing changing yet, according to polls.

it's possible everyone has settled into one side or the other.  If the things Trump has said and done the last three years haven't swayed you, you won't be swayed.  And if you find him abhorrent, nothing will change your mind on that either.

Say what you want about Trump’s ‘dismal’ approval ratings, but he’s right where Obama was at this point in his presidency.....

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/president_trump_vs_president_obama_job_approval.html

As others have noted, Obama had much higher approvals to start with so he had more supporters to win back. Trump's approvals have been stuck in the low 40's for a long time because he's alienated everyone outside the basic Republican base.

Exactly.

I'm a perfect example.  I used to vote Republican and up until 2016, I would've continued.  I will never, ever, under any circumstances whatsoever vote for Trump.

My dislike of Trump has turned me into a Democrat, at least for the time being.  I will vote for the Dem, no matter who it is at this point, and I'll vote Democratic for the highest office on the ballot to the lowest.

Trump's new strategy to flip MN seems to be backfiring.
Yeah because his strategy has been: "hey look, a state with a lot of white people. that must mean they love Trump".

His strategy isn't even that smart, considering that he's also targeting New Mexico.

We all thought he was dumb targeting Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin too.

Not trying to defend him; I think he’s unlikely to win MN or NM but it can’t be discounted and considering his cash on hand he’s not stupid to try.

Rasmussen is at 43/54 today, which is the worst since it was 43/57 on Feb. 1.  The approval number hasn't been lower since it hit 42 a couple of days in Jan. 2018.

The 538 averages for all polls and RV/LV-only polls are also now at their worst levels for Trump since the government shutdown.

Rasmussen had him at 52/47 before The Phone Call dropped. -9 approve, +7 disapprove. That's pretty brutal but a remarkably small change given it is now considered solid fact that the president attempted to sell out the country for a political favor from a foreign leader.

This is the kind of thing that would drop an ordinary president into Bush 2008 territory.

This is what happens when partisans adopt cult like mentalities.

I am so looking forward to when the spell is broken and all the people who are praising Trump as savior are blaming him for the GOP's complete dysfunction.

“I never liked him,” will be the new thing.  We’ve already seen this with previous failed Republicans.
