I couldn't find a thread on this; it's next week, Thursday 23 January, and was caused by the death of Labour MSP Helen Eadie, in November.

I suspect non-Scots are most likely to associate Cowdenbeath with its football team, aka the Blue Brazil.  The constituency also contains some other areas of south-west Fife near Dunfermline, including North Queensferry and Inverkeithing, the first stops on the railway line after crossing the Forth Bridge heading northwards.  (I think Gordon Brown lives here.)

Candidates:
Denise Baykal (UKIP)
Dave Dempsey (Con)
Stuart Graham (The Victims Final Right Party) [1]
Jade Holden (Lib Dem)
Natalie McGarry (SNP)
Alex Rowley (Lab)
James Trolland (Scottish Democratic Alliance) [2]

[1] See here; not quite what I was expecting.
[2] Pro-independence and anti-EU, according to Wikipedia.  He stood in the Aberdeen Donside by-election and got 35 votes, and has obtained the grand total of 7 votes in two Glasgow council by-elections.  So the Lib Dems presumably won't come last.

2011 result:

Lab 46.5%
SNP 41.6%
Con 7.0%
Lib Dem 3.9%
Land Party 1.1%

That seems a rather poor start to the referendum year for the Nats.
