Disappointed because of the dismal turnout or the fact that the resolution just squeezed by?

More the former than the latter, but the latter's a little concerning as well.

I would like to ask a chairman to hold a vote on finding/fielding a new candidate to the left of the liberal party but less extremist/more electable than tweed.

Something like this:

Should we try to field our own candidate or recruit a new presidential candidate to endorse?
[]yes
[]no

I would support this in theory, but I believe that we have a relative lack of options at this time.

Let's hold a vote, though. Voting is for forty-eight hours.

I, for one, will not be preferencing the Tweed ticket

Anyway, Tweed has said he's open to preferencing other candidates despite his personal dislike of the IRV system. I'm sure he can be convinced to give his second preference to the Napoleon/Kalwejt ticket. Mutual second preferencing is the best bet for both tickets and for all progressives.

This is what I've been trying to argue for.

Okay, I'd like to clear a few points up here:

1. This party never even tentatively endorsed Tweed. I tentatively endorsed Tweed because I was given to understand that he had a better idea of what he was doing than he did. There was, rightly, a rebellion within the party and I, I think rightly, backed down when I realized that I was wrong and most of the party was right.
2. I do, however, think that we should endorse Napoleon over Snowstalker for many of the reasons that have been articulated.
3. I haven't been present for this debate so far because I had finals and I'm currently at a hotel whose vaunted 'high-speed internet' is anything but. I apologize for the inconvenience and going forward I hope to be able to spend more time on this.
4. The Labor Party voted to endorse Napoleon. The only reason I described this as 'tentative' was because the turnout was piss-poor.
5. I like Tweed and get on well with him. This was (referring back to point 1) why I had endorsed him and asked for the party's support in doing so. However, at the current moment I do not believe that this is the way for Atlasia.
6. I have no intention to make the Labor Party an auxiliary of the Liberals but the simple fact is that Snowstalker as a Labor Party candidate sucks. Of course it's better to have a leftist elected as opposed to a rightist. Of course we should support the most leftist candidate we can. But I'm of the belief that whoever we end up endorsing should at least have a relatively stable personality and not have quit and then unquit the race, the party, Atlasia, any number of other things.

Thank you for running this vote for me, Seatown. I should be back from my de facto leave of absence in full force by tomorrow night or Wednesday.

Did Snowy ever technically return to being Vice-Chair (or leave, for that matter)?

I don't think anybody's sure, although we do not have any Vice-Chair who isn't Snowy...

We actual already went through this exercise...I think? Or at least, I'm looking back through the thread and we decided that Snowstalker didn't really vacate the position, or something; something that would have been a lot clearer if he'd given some indication of acknowledging that we were doing it.

Either way, I don't think officially reelecting him Vice-Chair, assuming that it needs to be done or isn't to be counted as having been done already, is going to make him more active.

I am not inactive on Atlasia, nor do I feel I vacated the position. Nevertheless, I shall vote:

[X] Snowstalker

I think the concern is that you haven't been active within this thread. Then again, I haven't been the best at that either.

I don't feel you vacated the position either.

Adam, I like your press release, but I'd recommend making it its own thread.

Congrats!
Seems our party is indeed making some strides, even if they are small steps.

Congratulations indeed!

It's important to build up credibility and experience for our members, especially those who are newish to Atlasian politics.

That's actually Simfan.

Is it? I guess congratulations to him, then, and to you for your full term.

Hey, can I get some whips for GOTV efforts in the presidential election? I'm anticipating a fairly busy next week or two and while I'll be around I might not be able to make immense time commitments to the forum or the game.

I am going to file an amicus brief on behalf of the respondent in the ridiculous Supreme Court case Young Tweed v. Department of Federal Elections. I make no secret of my previous support for Tweed back when he had balls and made some degree of sense but this is just cowardly and absurd. Normally I wouldn't consider this an emergency but the Supreme Court is already acting sufficiently frivolous as to have granted certoriari so there's no telling what they might do.

Regardless of our own political sympathies and the regrettable intraparty disputes of the past I urge us to come together in support of Atlasian democracy. I'd like to be able to file my brief in the name of the Standing Committee of the Whole of the Labor Party of Atlasia. If anybody objects to this within the next two hours (as of the original posting time) I will open an emergency vote. I urge however that the Party allow her Chairman to file in her name on behalf of the candidate whom she already endorsed and who was duly elected by the people.

The brief is in favor of certifying Napoleon's elections on the grounds that Tweed's interpretation of the Constitution is overtly political and hence not adjudicable according to the common law. Whosoever is clear on that and would like to attach their name to the brief in knowledge of that, I'll gladly do so.

Two hours have passed and there has been no objection. The brief will be signed as such.

'THE STANDING COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE OF THE LABOR PARTY OF ATLASIA
Nathan, Chairman; Snowstalker, Vice-Chairman
Cosigned by Northeast Governor Averroës Nix and Mideast Assemblyman Johannus Calvinus Libertas'

We're holding a vote.

There are so many permutations that I'd like everybody to just please specify which version of the logo they like best.

I'll keep this open for another day or two in case anybody else wants to weigh in. For what it's worth, that's my preference so far as well, with the original 'LABOR' pictogram on grey reserved for when we want a smaller version of the logo.

I intend to continue as Chairman in the short term but most likely not beyond the October elections, come what may in those.

So, since things are obviously going to change a little bit now that I'm Vice President, I'd like to just ask the party as a whole if we're generally okay with me staying on as Chairman for the interim. I don't want to call a confidence vote or anything right now unless we really feel the need for one for some reason but I'd like to make sure we feel that we're in a position where we can handle the next couple of months, in which I'll be scoping out potential post-me leadership arrangements (with input of course from the Vice-Chairman and the rest of the party).
