GOP DEBATE

Rand Paul
Opening Statements
Our country is currently in a hard time, our debt is rising 1 million dollars per minute, terrorism is on the rise... I think we need change! America needs a new leader, a different leader, with proposals that are different from what we seen from former presidents, that's why I hope you consider me for president.

Senator Paul: Is the Federal Reserve constitutional in your opinion?
Well, the constitution doesn't mention the need for a federal bank and it doesn't give the power to the government to create one, the government doesn't have the authority to create it, it isn't constitutional, and just like my father, I'll fight to end the fed! Even because, it isn't good, the fed is far too secretive, it has way to much power to control the economy, it has devalued our currency, and many other problems.

Senator Paul: What would be the Paul Doctrine when it comes to foreign policy? What is your guiding focus as a would-be commander in chief?
I'll seek to look more to our internal problems and I'll also seek not to be the world police, as president I'll have some priorities when talking about foreign policy, firstly I think we should defeat ISIS, I don't think we should send ground troops there, I won't send our sons and daughters to fight in Iraq and Syria! I think we should work with our allies and not just them, but also countries like Russia, but different from Marco, I'll not work with a country like Pakistan, that finances terrorism, I'll seek to sit down with leaders like Erdogan, Salman, Nawaz Sharif and tell them: "look, I know our nations are allies, but we all know you might finance radical groups, Turkey we know you finance radical turkmen groups in Syria to fight the kurds, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, we know you finance radical groups in Syria, so if we want to continue cooperating things are going to need to change!"

I'll also not look to overthrow Assad for a bunch of reasons, with the two biggest ones being, if we overthrow him before defeating ISIS, ISIS will have a chance to take all Syria easily, and if we overthrow him after, we will basically see Iraq repeat itself and another group will eventually appear. I'll also not look for a no fly zone there because different from Iraq in 1991, we have Russian planes in Syria and this can cause a big conflict, or even world war III, different from Marco and many of the republican establishment I'll not take this risk.

And meanwhile this, we will deal with Iran, I don't want a war with Iran, I think a deal is a good step but this deal gives to much to them and doesn't keep us safe, my priority as president when talking about Iran, will be to renegotiate the deal so we can all be safe.

My foreign policy is based on keeping us safe and not being the world police, I won't seek to overthrow governments and intervene and conflicts we have nothing to do, we need to remember, WE ARE NOT IN THE COLD WAR ANYMORE!

Senator Paul: You've said your goal is to balance the budget by the end of a your two terms in office, how do you go about achieving that result and are tax increases part of the package solution?
I'll seek to do what countries like Sweden and Norway made to grow, I'll seek to follow the Austrian economics from people like Hayek, Rothbard and Mises. Before anyone says "oh but the Scandinavian countries are socialist", this is a lie that people like Sanders love to tell, countries like Sweden had a big economic growth due to their economic liberalism, or economic conservatism for us, and staying out of conflicts. My economic plan will be to not get involved in new conflicts that we have nothing to do, we will cut regulations, so it is easier to make a business, I'll seek to shrink the government, by making it's involvement in the private sector and in many other things much smaller, I'll leave the TPP because it isn't a free trade deal, it is a corporativist deal, instead I'll negotiate real free trade deal, I will also not rise taxes, instead I'll seek to abolish the IRS and make a flat tax of 14.5% and the last thing is to cut spending in many areas. With all of this we will shrink the government and balance the budget, making our economy rise again.

Closing Statements

When I first ran for office, I wanted a new thing, I wanted to protect our liberties, I wanted to make the economy better, and after 6 years in the senate, I look to myself and see what I defended. And honestly, I think I was successful until now, by defending the average american from the government and things like it's espionage, I want to continue to defend it, and even more when I'm in the presidency, I hope you like my message.

Democratic Primary Debate

To both: What role should money play in our politics?

I believe my campaign is an example of this. We have managed to fund it through thousands of small donation; the average donation has been $27.

However, that is the limit. No campaign or politician should be receiving money from large donors or SuperPACs. Make no mistake, $2700 dollars may sound like a decent limit, but then the donor's partner also donates; so do their children. Then there's no limit on how much they can donate to these SuperPACs.

We have this lack of laws because of Citizens United, one of the most egregious and short-sighted decisions made in the history of our nation. You'll hear from Republicans, 'this is just people expressing their right to free speech.' How does that work? If money equals free speech as Republicans claim, then that means people like Sheldon Adelson and George Soros have a greater right to free speech than a 40 year old single mother working two jobs in Minnesota.

I have also introduced a constitutional amendment banning corporate donations in the past. I don't believe that a corporation or union should be able to donate as much as they like as an organisation.

My final answer: let individual contribute as they like, up to $2700, but ban all donations from corporations, and unions, and ban SuperPACs. We also need to institute a 5-year ban on retired politicians becoming lobbyists.

Quote
To both: Who or what do you consider to be the greatest threat to the United States National Security?

Right now, our biggest threat is the ideology of the fundamentalist, radical interpretation of Islam currently destroying the Middle East. The overwhelming majority of Muslims are very kind peace-loving people, and many of them despise people like ISIS as much as we do, if not more so.

When I say the ideology of it, I mean we need to force a large scale re-think of our foreign policy. It's Saudi Arabia who has been spreading this foul Wahabbist ideology throughout the world, and we need to re-think our alliance with them.

We need to form a coalition to fight ISIS, instead of doing it on our own. We are not the world's police force; we are a nation. It is time we started acting like one.

Quote
To Sen. Sanders: Senator, you're campaign is staked in the great tradition of American populism, taking on the establishment arguably in both parties. If you are elected Senator, how do you intend to govern successfully given your attacks on Washington DC and your fellow colleagues?

Much of my agenda polls well with the public. The overwhelming majority are in favor of free public college, universal healthcare and reducing military spending. Most are in favour of expanding Social Security and reforming Wall Street. This polls well with the public because that's what they believe.

Populism is defined as politics of the people. My father came over here as a refugee from Poland, and my mother was born to Jewish immigrants. I went to public schools in New York, and was only able to attend the University of Chicago on a scholarship. I understand the struggles of the middle and working classes well, having experienced them myself.

Do I expect it to be easy to govern? No. But I have not unjustly attacked anyone. I have made reasonable criticisms that are blown out of proportion by the media in this country. I am pushing the politics of the people, and that threatens to upset the apple cart in Washington DC. If Democrats are interested in pursuing these politics, then they're welcome to use my platform as their own.

To Sen. Warren: Sen. Warren, last night you cited the Concord Monitor when you said of Senator Sanders that, quote, “It’s very hard to see how any of his proposals could ever be achievable.” So please tell us why you think if he’s elected president on a platform of promising things like free public college and universal healthcare, that he cannot achieve those things?

To Sen. Warren: Progressive seem to have chosen Sen. Sanders as their candidate. Why should liberal Democrats support you over him?

Quote
Senator Sanders, as a Vermonter, you have almost a home state advantage here in New Hampshire. But back home across the border, you also have a long history of running against Democrats as a third-party candidate, for governor, Senate, for Congress.

In 1988 your candidacy as a third-party candidate arguably cost the Democrats a congressional seat and sent a Republican instead.

How can you lead the Democratic Party nationally when you have not been a member of the Democratic Party until very recently?

First off, let's get one thing straight about that 1988 Congressional election. The Republican candidate, Peter Smith, won 41% of the vote, I won 37%, and the Democrat won 19%, so it was the Democrat who was the spoiler in that situation. As for my other elections, if one were to take a look at the results closely, then the Democrat either won or my candidacy would've made no difference.

I have caucused with the Democrats since 1991, when I first entered Congress. In 2006, the then-Senator Obama actually came out to campaign for me in Vermont, and during the 1990s, I worked closely with then-First Lady Clinton to try and push through universal healthcare.

I'm as much of a Democrat as anyone else, apart from the fact that I have made some reasonable criticisms of the Democratic Party.

Sen. Warren: Russia considers to pose a geopolitical threat to the United States in Syria. Under a Warren adminstraiton what is your policy towards challenging Russia and protecting American interests?

Quote
Sen. Sanders: Should we be involved in Syria and to what extent should it be humanitarian relief?

We should be sending food and medical supplies to civilians. That's it. We cannot let ourselves become embroiled in yet another useless Middle Eastern War and we cannot afford saber-rattling with Russia who backs Assad. We should be aiding civilians; not either side.

Quote
TO both: Top priority in the 1st 100 days?

No question. It's passing Wall Street reform. Wealth inequality is the greatest moral issue of our time, and we need to pass reform for it without delay. My priority will be re-instating Glass-Steagall so we don't face another disastrous crash like 2008

Closing statements:

I have stood all my life for workers, farmers and the middle and working classes. I grew up in a working class family. I have fought against the repeal of Glass-Steagall and against the Bush tax cuts. Vote your conscience; vote for who you think will be the best to take forward a bold progressive agenda. THank you.

Democratic Debate

1. Ideally, money should play no role in politics. Unfortunately, most politicians in both parties are recalcitrant in limiting or removing the toxic influence of money from politics.

2. Russia and China are the biggest threats to our country right now, Russia because their bellicosity towards our NATO allies in Eastern Europe could lead to a nuclear war, and China because it's aggressive actions in the South China Sea could lead to World War Three.

3. I didn't say that free college wasn't achievable. I said the rich should keep paying for college. Universal Health Care is not something at any point in this campaign, so suggesting that I said that Senator Sanders's plan is unworkable is a false statement.

4. I'm also a progressive and I can win in November against Senator Rubio, Senator Paul or Mr. Pearcy. Senator Sanders may be more progressive but he will lose in November if nominated.

5. We need to add more sanctions, including sanctions on Russia's various allies, and sanctions on Putin personally.

6. My first priority as President would be to review our relationships with Saudi Arabia, Russia and other countries that have been hostile to us, or whose citizens have been hostile to us in the recent past and break off relations if appropriate.

New Hampshire, Senator Sanders may be from Vermont, but I am also from next door, in Massachusetts. Don't forget about me!

Endorsements:
Bernie Sanders:

Businessman Nick Hanauer: "I'm a venture capitalist. I've made my money in the free market. However, Republicans talk about this idea that my class are the job creators, and that if you tax us, we create less jobs. This is a misunderstanding of how the economy works; the demands of the middle class create jobs by forcing businesses to hire them. Senator Sanders realised this when he was still a student, that's why I support him."

United Kingdom Oppostion Leader Jeremy Corbyn: "I have been following Bernie Sanders' campaign with great enthusiasm; his sweeping emergence on the left is only going to revitalize the grasroots in America. I am proud to support him."

Activist Thor Halvorssen: "I'm from Venezuela, so unlike many conservatives, I understand what actual far-leftism is. With that said, I don't believe that Sanders is the boogeyman the right makes him out to be. I lead the Human Rights Foundation, and many of Sanders' proposals-universal healthcare, universal education, reforming of Wall Street, raising the minimum wage-are all beliefs that those I hold. I am proud to campaign for him"

Rand Paul:
Representative from Wyoming Cynthia Lummis should endorse Rand Paul due to their very similar views in the economy and issues like abortion and healthcare.

Representative Curt Clawson from Florida should endorse Rand Paul due to their shared views on the economy and issues like drugs

Leader of the UKIP Nigel Farage should endorse Rand Paul because he always described himself as a libertarian and said that Paul was his soulmate from the tea party.

Elizabeth Warren:
Beto O'Rourke, Donna Shahala, Leon Panetta, Cory Booker, Barbara Mikulski, and Mike Beebe

Marco Rubio:
Jerry Moran, Kansas Senator and former 2016 presidential candidate, endorsed Marco Rubio because he dropped out of the race and due to their shared hawkish foreign policy views, to their shared support to free trade and due to their shared views on social issues (abortion, same-sex marriage, gun rights, etc.)

Lindsey Graham (previously endorsed Jerry Moran), South Carolina Senator, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on foreign policy issues.

Mac Thornberry, Texas congressman, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on terrorism and foreign policy issues

Luis Fortuno, former Puerto Rico Governor, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared support to Puerto Rico's statehood and their shared views on the importance of expanding the Republican Party by attracting Hispanics

Bono, singer of U2,  endorses Marco Rubio due to Rubio's efforts against the Zika

Mark Burns, African American evangelical pastor from South Carolina, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on social issues and to Rubio's support to the removal of the Confederate flag from South Carolina's Capital Hill and also because unlike the other candidates Marco Rubio tells the truth no matter what

John F. Kelly, retired general,  endorses Marco Rubio due to shared foreign policy views

Jon Huntsman, former governor of Utah; former U.S. Ambassador to China and 2012 presidential candidate, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on economic issues and because of their shared support to peace through strength

Susana Martinez, Governor of New Mexico, should endorse Marco Rubio due to shared views on economic and social issues and also because Marco Rubio is the best Republican candidate to attract Hispanic voters

Jeff Flake, Arizona Senator, endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on social, economic and foreign policy issues.

Bruce Rauner, Governor of Illinois, endorses Marco Rubio because he's convinced that the Florida Senator is the best candidate in this to manage the economy due to his experience as a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Roy Blunt, Missouri Senator, endorsesMarco Rubio due to shared views on economic, social and foreign policy issues.

I thought the Colorado Republican caucuses were in April. Correct me if that's not the case.

According to this;
http://frontloading.blogspot.com/p/2016-presidential-primary-calendar.html
The GOP Colorado caucus is on Super Tuesday, but no Presidential Preference Vote is taken.

Update: Nevada Caucus/South Carolina Primary

CNN: Key Race Alert: NV CAUCUS TOO CLOSE TO CALL -- SANDERS NARROWLY AHEAD

...

Gloria Borger: ....Tonight again shows the power of Bernie Sanders. His message is deep and it's wide, and Democrats, especially those who have bee dismissive of his campaign, should take notice.

Van Jones: Bernie Sanders is a reaction and a response to liberal neglect in the Obama Years - a belief among many progressives that he didn't go far enough, that he didn't deliver on the big issues. Tonight Bernie Sanders is speaking to the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party. The question remains does this message have legs in the general election?

David Axelrod: I still believe Elizabeth Warren will win. Maybe tonight is a squeaker, but I think in the long run she's progressive, but is also acceptable to the party as a whole.

Kirsten Powers: I do think it's concerning she, who has been a liberal icon, is having a tough time fighting off Bernie Sanders, a self described socialist.

Jeffey Lorde: That's just it! He's a socialist. He's where the party has moved and what it has become, so as a Republican I say go Bernie go, because if he wins, we win!

Anderson Cooper: Excuse me panel, but we have a projection to make.

Wolf Blitzer: Yes, Anderson. CNN can project Bernie Sanders will win the Nevada Caucuses.
✓ Bernie Sanders Wins Nevada Caucus

Wolf Blitzer: A close win for Senator Sanders -- certainly both sides will call it a draw, but a win nevertheless for Bernie Sanders.

✓ Bernie Sanders: 50.09% (18)
Elizabeth Warren: 49.91% (17)

8:00 PM EST

South Carolina Republican Primary

✓ Marco Rubio Wins SC Primary

Wolf Blitzer: A very big win for Senator Marco Rubio. He wins by a wide margin in South Carolina tonight and will automatically collect 47 delegates outright, with the rest being decided proportionally. Repeat, CNN is now projecting Marco Rubio the winner in South Carolina.

✓ Marco Rubio: 50.02% (47+12)
Stephen Pearcy: 27.98% (6)
Rand Paul: 21.99% (3)

Jeffrey Lorde: Another big win for Rubio. He's now won two of the three states and tonight, by a wide margin. Certainly, we have many more contests to go and Pearcy and Paul are not going anywhere, but I think tonight will send a big message for Rubio and help his campaign.

David Axelrod: I had to go back to 2000, when George W. Bush beat John McCain, to find a candidate who won by this big a margin in the Republican Primary and with over 50% of the vote. Now certainly, the Pearcy and Paul Campaigns will say their votes combined almost equal Rubio's, but the fact is this state has generally played a crucial role in deciding who wins the Republican nomination.

Anderson Cooper: The outlier being of course four years ago when Newt Gingrich defeated Mitt Romney.

David Gergen It's a very good night for Marco Rubio, but it's also a good night for the Anti-Rubio candidate. For a while I think many people, including myself figured it would be Rand Paul, but after his narrow win in New Hampshire and now third place finish in South Carolina, I see that there might be a coalescing around Stephen Pearcy.

David Axelrod Both are drawing from the same libertarian wing of the party, but there is a sense that Pearcy might be a wild card. He's not a politician, he's new to the political scene and in this environment where we're seeing Bernie Sanders do so well on the Democratic side, Pearcy might be a response to the establishment for the Republicans. The next two questions I see are: Can he catch up to Marco Rubio, which the only way I see that happening is he is able to make this a one on one race, and two and this is really the most important: Can he win a state.

Jeffrey Lorde: If I'm Stephen Pearcy, I'm putting a greater focus on Nevada, because if he can defeat Rubio there he probably can force Paul out of the race and make this a one on one contest.

Endorsements:

Marco Rubio:

John Boozman, Arkansas Senator,  endorses Marco Rubio due to shared views on social issues and economic issues.

BREAKING: OBAMA TO NOMINATE JUDGE MERRICK GARLAND TO SCOTUS
Pres. Obama announced his pick of Merrick Garland to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court. Obama called Garland, a 'extremely competent jurist', and one who 'would serve with integrity and constitutional pragmatism'. Congressional Republicans have been steadfast in their opposition to an appointment to the Supreme Court, during a Presidential election year. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blasted the  President, saying "The American people will decide in November who will sit on the Supreme Court of the United States, not an outgoing President." The White House denounced the Majority Leader's comments as 'childish' and called on Congress 'to act, not politic'.

Nevada GOP Caucuses

Blitzer: A closer than expected race in Nevada...

Marco Rubio: 37%
Stephen Pearcy: 34%
Rand Paul: 29%

Cooper: Stephen Pearcy running neck and neck with Senator Rubio.

Castellanos: This is the rise of the Anti-Establishment candidate. There maybe a rallying around Pearcy for people who do not want Rubio as the nominee. Rubio is doing well among Hispanics, so if he wins tonight that'll be the reason.

PROJECTION: MARCO RUBIO WINS NV CAUCUSES

Blitzer: CNN is now making a projection. Marco Rubio will win the Nevada Caucuses; Stephen Pearcy finishing a very close second tonight, showing there is still a contest in the race for the Republican nomination.

✓ Marco Rubio: 36.54% (11)
Stephen Pearcy: 35.96% (11)
Rand Paul: 26.50% (5)

Marco Rubio: 108 (3 Contests Won) 42.09%
Stephen Pearcy: 28- 26.14%
Rand Paul: 23 (1 Contest Won) 26.74%

This round will close tomorrow night at 10 PM EST
A Reminder: There will be two debates prior to Super Tuesday. (Democrat and Republican)
The pre-Super Tuesday round will be a two day turn, likely running from Wednesday night to Friday night at 11 PM EST.

Rand Paul Drops Out; It's Rubio vs. Pearcy
Rand Paul ended his bid for President after finishing third in Nevada. In exiting the race he endorsed fellow rival Stephen Pearcy. Paul, who narrowly won the NH Primary faced increasingly difficult odds as Pearcy and he competed for the same swath of voters. Now out of the race, the belief is many of Paul's supporters will rally around Pearcy; leaving the latter to head into Super Tuesday with momentum against frontrunner Marco Rubio.

Democrats Debate Before South Carolina and Super Tuesday

Bernie Sanders:

Opening Statements

We have proven to be a viable alternative to pilitics as usual this year. There is a palpable feeling of apathy throughout this country, and we are turning that from apathy into power. The people of this country are making their voices heard, but there is a long way to go!

To both candidates: All three Republican candidates have pledged to repeal and replace Obamacare. Do you think Obamcare needs fixing?

Somewhat, but not in the way Republicans think. The only way to fix it is by moving to a single-payer universal system. We are the only nation that does not guarantee healthcare as a right, and this is just morally reprehensible. We need to move to a single-payer system so that everyone is insured. Healthcare is a right, not a privilege!

Senator Warren: Does Dodd Frank go far enough? If not, what would you propose to deal with regulating the financial industry?

Senator Sanders: Senator Rubio, who is seeking the Republican nomination has criticized both of you as being too soft on terrorism; how would you a Sanders administration deal with the threats being presented here and around the world?

I find the Senator's comments to be amusing, to be honest. Saudi Arabia is the number 1 state sponsor of terror in this world, spreading this Wahabbist ideology everywhere, but Senator Rubio wants to sell weapons to them so they can them drop them on kids in Yemen.

A Sanders administration would seek peaceful, diplomatic solutions to conflicts, only turning to force once all other avenues have been exhausted. I do not consider myself a pacifist; I have supported efforts to deal with ethnic cleansing in Kosovo. There are certain interventions that have been justified, but I will also ensure that I reach out to relevant advisers to ensure that the situation has been thoroughly analyzed to make sure there is no blowback.

We would pursue peace over war. Life over death. Diplomacy over force. However, military force would remain an option, only it would be the very last one.

Senator Warren: Are Republicans wrong for saying they'll block a Supreme Court nominee by President Obama? Seeing as in 1991, then Senator Joe Biden took the exact same position the Republicans are holding now, which was to block a President (then George H.W. Bush) nominee during an election year?

Senator Sanders: What is your position on gun control, and given some votes you took while in the House are you out of step with your party?

Unlike Senator Warren, I am from a rural state. What I oppose are the unregulated sale of assault weapons to the public; I told the people of Vermont this when I ran for Congress in 1990. My stance is that I believe the Assault Weapons Ban should be reinstated. I believe that high capacity magazines should be banned. I believe in an expansion of background checks. I also believe that if a store sells a gun to someone after conducting a thorough background check, and that person goes and does something crazy, then that store is not liable.

I am in favor of common sense gun reform. Not going all out on the suing of manufacturers; they are not liable for what is done with their weapons. Despite what Senator Rubio has said, I am in favour of gun control.

To both candidates: Do you have a private email server?

No, and if I can say something on this, I would argue that the media is pushing this narrative of Hillary Clinton purely through sensationalism and a desire to get more eyeballs on screens. Entertainment sells, and that's what the media is doing with this. The American people are sick and tired of hearing about her damn emails! The middle class is disappearing. Citizens United has now made it possible for an oligarchy to take control! These are the issues! Let's discuss them!

Closing Statements

I have made my case to the people of this nation. I grew up in a middle class family in New York; attended a public school, and when I attended the University of Chicago on a scholarship, I organised civil rights protests, marched with Martin Luther King, Jr and was arrested in the course of one protest. I have stood my entire life for the middle and working class, and I don't intend to stop now.

Elizabeth Warren:

I am honored to be at another debate tonight, and I look forward to answering the questions posed to the best of my ability.

Obamacare is light-years ahead of what came before it, however what needs to be done is a more universal system needs to be introduced. As President, I will push for the passage of a Universal Health Care system modeled after the United Kingdom's NHS.

Dodd-Frank simply does not go far enough to deal with the problems the banking industry has faced. At a minimum, I would at a minimum, ask Congress to pass legislation re-introducing Sections 20 and 32 of the Glass-Steagall act. I would also ask Congress to pass legislation that would allow the Secretary of the Treasury to authorize the breaking up of the largest banks operating in the United States, like Citgroup, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo.

How is the Senate supposed to advise and consent on any nominee, be it for the executive or the judicial branch, without holding hearings on that nominee? Joe Biden was wrong in 1991, and Mitch McConnell is wrong today, plain and simple.

I don't currently have a private email server. I do have a separate email address for non-work email, but that, as far I'm aware, is not a server. And, in any event, even if I previously had a private server, I'm not dumb enough to bring one to the White House, where I'd have classified information flying around left and right.

To voters in both South Carolina, and in all Super Tuesday states, and territories, this is your last chance to make a decision. I hope I've made a good impression on you.
