I thought (probably like most of the rest of you) that Frodo would take the Southeast.
Taking the southeast would have required Frodo taking a lot of casualties knocking out both Alabama and Florida.  While I didn't anticipate him spreading himself so thinly as he has so as to conquer the Midwest, I didn't think he would try to take the Southeast.

Pretty much the move I was expecting to make, but probably not the one others were expecting me to make.

Place all 3 battalions in Texas.
Attack do or die Texas -> Oklahoma -> Colorado -> Utah -> Nevada -> California -> Hawaii
Tactical move: 4 battalions New Mexico -> Colrado

I wouldn't say I was blindsided by this...I will say I didn't want this to happen and am really, really dismayed that it is.

Wow, my worst case scenario come to pass.

Just FYI?  Ernest?  See those legions on AZ and ID?  Because I don't have any more chance of victory (barring really improbable dice rolls on this turn)...those guys are going after you all out next turn.

Hey, I had no chance of taking a region in Round 1 and holding it to gain a bonus from it in Round 2.  I was hoping more of my battalions would be enjoying sunny Hawaii, but I'm not too displeased with my results despite my troops apparent ineptitude at amphibious assaults.

Sorry for the delay.

Place 2 battalions in Colorado and 1 in Hawaii.

So long as I have at least 2 battalions to attack with, attack with, attack Colorado to New Mexico to Arizona.

Await further orders.

Attack New Mexico to Arizona.
Attack Hawaii to Alaska to Washington.
Await further orders.

Attack California to Oregon for at most two battles, leaving 2 battalions behind in California.
Assuming I take Oregon, tactical move 1 battalion from Oregon to Washington.

If I lose both battles, then stop trying to take Oregon and instead try to take Arizona by attacking do or die from California, returning all battalions that can move back to California.

Note, I only intend to attempt to take Arizona if I fail to take Oregon in two tries.

I see you round to the nearest instead of down, so I have one more battalion than expected.

I am not turning in a set of cards.

Place 3 battalions in California and 4 battalions in Washington.

Attack do or die Washington to Idaho.

I'd like to turn in the following three cards.

That gives me an extra 10 battalions, for 16 in all.

Place 2 in California, 1 in South Dakota, and 13 in Idaho.

1. Attack do or die California to Nevada, moving all possible battalions into Nevada .
2. Attack do or die Idaho to Montana, leaving 2 battalions in Idaho.
3. Attack do or die Montana to North Dakota with only 2 battalions in each attack, moving only 2 battalions into North Dakota.
4. Attack do or die Montana to Wyoming to Nebraska, moving all possible battalions into Nebraska.
5. Attack do or die Nebraska to Kansas, awaiting orders as to how many battalions to move into Kansas.

Note, except for the assault into North Dakota, attacks are at full strength.

Well, it's been nice playing with you guys.  Given Joe's rules about spreading around the players, I'll be back for game VII, I guess.

Don't be so hasty.  After all, who knows what Joe's dice might do?

Advance 5 battalions to Kansas.

Attack Nevada to Arizona, do or die, leaving 2 battalions in Nevada if possible.

Attack do or die Kansas to Missouri to Tennessee to Arkansas.

If any battalions can be moved from Arkansas to Missouri, do so; if not, then move 1 battalion from Arizona to New Mexico.

UT-ID with 4 troops

Come on, Mads. Get me some potatoes.

Attacks (cont.)

Utah invades Idaho (Ernest) with 5 battalions available to attack, while 2 battalions will defend Idaho.

Sensei [5] rolls 3 dice: 6 3 2
Ernest [2] rolls 2 dice: 5 3
Both armies lose 1 battalion each

Sensei [4] rolls 3 dice: 6 5 1
Ernest [1] rolls 1 die: 3
Ernest loses 1 battalion

Sensei conquers Idaho and places 4 battalions there, leaving 1 behind in Utah.

----------

Awaiting further instructions

I interpreted Frodo's orders as indicating that he wished to leave 2 battalions in Utah, since he was only attacking with 4 battalions.  In that case, he should have only advanced 3 battalions into Idaho, thereby affecting the follow on attack into Washington.

Ah well, I could hope.  I didn't think I would be able to keep Sensei out of the Pacific.  I needed to take at least Tennessee to have have done that.

Yup.  I noticed that.  I was a bit rushed, as I wanted to Git-R-Done before Fezzy posted his moves

I count 4 battalions for 12 states.

Plus I have a set of cards to turn in for 10 additional battalions:

Place all reinforcements in Nebraska and attack do die: Nebraska to Missouri to Tennessee to Arkansas to Oklahoma.

Await further instructions.

It appears I inherited Mikado's dice rolling along with his cards. Sad

Attack so long as I am able to attack with more battalions than the defender can defend with along the route Oklahoma to Kansas to Colorado to Utah to Idaho.

Await further orders.

Three infantrymen are only worth 4 battalions, not 10.  10 requires 1 of each.

I count 13 states and 0 regions, giving me 4 reinforcements.
Place all reinforcements in Arizona (even if I miscounted my reinforcements.)

Attack do or die Arizona-New Mexico-Texas.

So long as I have at least 2 battalions to attack with, attack Texas-Louisiana.

If I manage to get that far without taking losses go ahead and attack Louisiana-Mississippi do or die.

Tactical move 1 battalion Nevada to Idaho.

Time to turn in a set of cards:

That gives me an extra 10 battalions to place where I want plus 2 battalions for Idaho.

Now it's time to live up to the name of this game and take a RISK.

Place all 14 free battalions in North Dakota, making 16 battalions in North Dakota, plus the 2 reinforcements that must go to Idaho make it 5 battalions there.

Attack do or die:
Idaho to Washington

Attack until 7 or more battalions have been lost in the following attacks. (i.e., so long as I still have a chance of taking out Frodo this turn.)
South Dakota to Iowa
North Dakota to Minnesota to Michigan to Indiana to Kentucky to Illinois
If Iowa has been taken by South Dakota, attack Illinois to Missouri.
If Iowa has not been taken by South Dakota, attack Illinois to Iowa to Missouri.
Missouri to Oklahoma to Arkansas.

I forgot Wisconsin, tho I wish I could forget Missouri.

I'll also note that Joe forgot Sensei had 2 battalions defending Washington, not 1.

Anyway, Tactical move all available battalions from Washington to Oregon.

Place 1 battalion in Idaho and 5 in Oregon, bringing the totals to 2 and 9 respectively.

Attack so long as the attacking battalions outnumber the defending battalions:
Oregon to California to Nevada to Arizona
Await orders on how many battalions advance from Nevada to Arizona.
