Is it time to for the GOP to hit back with "sources" that say Obama not only experimented with cocaine, but crack cocaine, while attending communist demonstrations at Columbia and Harvard? Or how about "sources" that say Obama's entire academic success was the result of affirmative action? Why won't Obama release his college transcripts to prove otherwise? Maybe "sources" who know Obama had his books ghostwritten? Why won't Obama release all contracts involving his books to prove otherwise?

Reid needs to put up or shut up before this gets out of hand.

If Democrats want a repeat of Lee Atwater-style mudslinging, they better barrel down the hatches.

Wait, is it 2007? Because I'm pretty sure that everything you mentioned there has already been thrown at Obama ad nauseum by the Republican machine. Republicans have been demanding records, personal information and rewriting their own history for the President that matches their worldview since he came into office.

The Republican attack machine is a very effective tool, but I'm afraid it will not be nearly as effective this go around. It's not as if Republicans have been planning to hold on to any juicy lie they can imagine to spread across two terms; since declaring that Obama will be a one-term President, they've thrown literally everything at him that they can scrounge up these past four years and now nothing anyone hears is new, shocking or outrageous.

The vast majority of the undecided electorate has tuned out the Republican lies, slogans and catch-phrases that have been repeated over and over. If they vote Republican, it will be due to a more nuanced reason.

And let's not pretend Romney is above the fray or has any sort of high moral ground. Romney's campaign and his surrogates - besides completely embracing the extremist elements in the Republican Party that have been pumping out anti-Obama propaganda since 2008 - has directly ran ads and made statements insinuating falsehoods and engaging in personal attacks against the President ("Obama will just send you your check", "he hates business", "Obama is a socialist stoner").

In short: you all have cried "Wolf!" way too many times, and the Republican attack machine is out of gas when it comes to additional persuasion. Enjoy the electorate you (currently) have, for Obama has largely remained calm and refrained from being critical in these ridiculous lies, assumptions and fairytales that Republicans keep trying to sell. That is, until now. We saved our gas, bitches, and we're about to go steamrolling.
