While I don't know what ajc is thinking, it might have something to do with this, from back when Flynn pled guilty:

What does Flynn's guilty plea mean for Vice President Pence?

Schiff: Trump may face ‘real prospect of jail time’

Quote

Why wait?

It's not like he's going to be less of a President just because he's locked in a jail cell. He can get his briefings and sign documents during visiting hours, and meet with foreign dignitaries for photo ops in the exercise yard. He can spend the rest of his time sitting and watching cable news and shouting, just like now. If anything, his image should be improved by the inability to fire off stream of consciousness insults to the whole world or watching his sad antics during public appearances. If the cult really misses it, maybe Fox News can start a reality show featuring a cantankerous old racist - or save on budget and just do reruns of the Archie Bunker show. And if the GOP has a problem with it, they can still replace him with Pence whenever they want.

Is there anything preventing states from prosecuting him now that he is president?

No, but it would very swiftly end up in the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh might have to recuse himself.

I think state prosecution is only likely to happen if Mueller is fired and/or impeachment fails.

Don't leave out the possibility of state charges against the Trump Organization or even Trump Campaign, if they think they can't get anywhere against the Orange Obfuscator himself.

This seems so weird. Who on a jury would trust the testimony of A Russian spy, and if she tells the truth, how can we guarantee her safety. Her choice seems like it's witness protection or jail, and I just don't see why she would want to cooperate. That's a mark that will be on her for the rest of her life. Prison is temporary.

She would have to provide documentary evidence to back up any claims - same with anyone else who has flipped in this probe - Gates especially.

I think Butina's credibility would be even lower than Gates. Not sure how much lower you can go, and yet here we are!

Presuming she is truly cooperating, her credibility isn't the point. Sure, she might end up on the stand to give a human element to a prosecution narrative. But the real value of her cooperation is to reveal information prosecutors might not be aware of.  She can tell them where to look for digital or physical evidence.

March? That's a long time to accidentally go to Russia or fall down the stairs three times.

Also, he'll be in Otisville, which isn't on a river. Pedantry complete.

Or a long time to think about what he might be able to give prosectors to get some of those 3 years back.

And a long time for Desperate Donald to worry about what else Cohen might have, and attempt to obstruct justice with a pardon.

Personally to me, Trump's decades-long Money Laundering schemes looks like a bigger egg to fry than the Russian Collusion Investigation against him instead. Good on Schiff and Letitia James in New York for finally looking into this long con.

They're not really separate.

Trump's oldest son said a decade ago that a lot of the family's assets came from Russia

This man vents a lot, but he doesn't actually do much, does he?

Pulls American forces out of the Russian periphery, gets sanctions on major Russian companies dropped, creates an international incident with China, shuts down the government, and attacks the Federal Reserve as there's an historic drop in the stock market.

That was this week.

If he wasn't convincing as a vile idiot, I might wonder if the demented rants were camouflage for a traitor.

In terms of this investigation, he's not done very much though.

Fired Comey, fired Sessions, pressured them both to shut down the investigation, more obstruction of justice than I can count.... Dump has done a great deal. It's just that he puts out so much meaningless noise on this (and any other) topic that it obscures the magnitude of what he has done by comparison.
