Canceling the fully-planned and mostly-paid-for ARC tunnel (which would have doubled our severely bottlenecked rail capacity across the Hudson) was the very definition of penny wise, pound foolish- and given the millions of people who live on Long Island and its isolation from goods across the country, we could really use that cross-Hudson freight tunnel, too.

Yes, in fact, I would like to go out and buy more tunnel.  Because it's a necessary investment in the future.

Yay! Another person who likes trains!

I'd rather not. On all three.

"You may very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment. Because I'm sleeping. Or trying to sleep, anyway."

Excellent choice, I must say. What is he in?

please at least consolidate them like rr1997 is doing. we don't need four dozen separate threads for this.

Wait, let me get this... so they held a plebiscite on the formation of Baden-Wurttemberg... and  they decided to consider the results across the two (well three, including Hohenzollern) states collectively rather than individually?

I could have worded that better, but that's like holding a referendum in Argentina and the Falklands asking if the Falklands should become part of Argentina and then imposing Argentine control over the islands as a result. It's an post facto legitimacy at best, downright annexation at worst.

Are there any organisations supporting Badener statehood? The Allies really mangled up the Germany borders, but then again dealing with a state comprising half the country was never going to be easy.
