Perhaps Canada and the U.S could have a relationship somewhat like the member states of the E.U have?

They could have some form of North American Parliament, and perhaps a Senate as well.

Dividing India into India and Pakistan was a very, very bad idea...

Would a Subcontinental version of the E.U work?

Opebo, The Atlee Government wouldn't have tried to keep India.
In fact they wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible (same with the Palestine Mandate).
