Who said anything about Iran? Last time I checked, Israel isn't exactly a friend of Palestinian national sovereignty.
The reason the treaty was proposed was due to Iran acquiring nuclear weapons and thus posing a real threat to Israel's very existance. It formalizes our current ties with them and sends a message that we stand with them.
