The new patch for HOI4 is ballin' too.

I loved HOI 1 and 2 and played both games to death for years, but I couldn't get used to the learning curve in HOI3. After the failure of HOI3, I never bothered to get into HOI 4

HOI 3 is easily the worst game that paradox has ever made. HOI 4 is very much a spiritual successor to 2 in terms of the core mechanics (as in it's an actual strategy war game and not an annoying logistics micromanagement simulator)

If you really liked 2 but don't want to take a risk on the new game, though, I definitely recommend Darkest Hour. It was a licensed fan-made game that basically took HOI 2 and gave it a comprehensive update, a lot of cool new features, great quality of life improvements, and the modding community is still fairly active for it (DH Kaisserreich is absolutely amazing)

I loved how in HOI 1 and 2, you could take direct military control of your allies. This was absolutely vital for when I was playing Germany. I needed the help of Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. People laugh them off as sh**tty small countries, but together all 3 of them sent 60+ divisions for Barbarossa under my command. Without me directly controlling them, I can't put them to good use as the AI is just way too stupid to properly coordinate on the Eastern Front. I hope you can do direct military control of allies in HOI4.

Has anyone dared to play as Byzantium and restore Rome? You are going to need to ally and get high relations with Poland, Lithuania, Hungary and maybe the Mamlukes. You are going to need all the help you can get as the Ottoman will curbstomp you 1 v 1. You start the game with only 3 provinces. What annoys me to death is when Hungary and Poland rival each other and go to war which ruins everything.

I bought CK2 for free on Steam a few weeks ago but I still have not played it. It seems different from all the other grand strategy games I have played in the past like HOI, Victoria and EU. I figured CK2 was pretty much the same as EU4, but set in a different timeline. I have read more about CK2 and the weird ruler system it has, it seems kind of intimating. I have zero idea how that ruling dynasty stuff works. I want a change from EU4, but the learning curve is going to be tough. It was very easy to jump from HOI to Victoria, then Victoria to EU4.

I always was annoyed when the British found influencing Mexico of all countries as a top priority, when I played as the US in Victoria II. Because of British owned Belize, they do technically share a border with Mexico. I also was banned from influencing Mexico for 5 years after each war, which left the UK more time to add them to their SOI. I always kept on the British good side as the US, but them mucking around in my backyard was annoying.

I need to get some DLC for CK2, any suggestions outside of the character builder one which I'm already planning on getting.  It would be nice to play as the Mongolians and/or start in 866(?) instead of 1066.  And I think vanilla limited the mod choices I had, but it's been a month or so since I looked and it was just the once.  I'd look now, but I'm at work and the DoD frowns on installing Steam on thier networks for some reason.

How would CK be able to properly model a tiny country like Mongolia almost taking over the entire world? Is there some event that automatically fires in a certain year, and boosts the Mongol stats and lowers the rest of the world's stats?

brahhh I love playing America in Vic2. I just did a game where, after China westernized, I declared war on them and blockaded them for the better part of a decade and had them at 100% war exhaustion, literally like half their people immigrated to America and then I was able to get like 400 brigades from it.

I loved immigration in Vicky 1 and 2. In Vicky 1, I would load up as the UK and release Canada. Since Canada only had around 2-3 million people in 1836, I needed immigration fast. I cheated to allow full social and political reforms to help encourage new immigrants in. I also enacted universal healthcare to boost the growth rate. I was getting flooded by immigrants. I had 120 million people by 1920, and was the world's superpower. There was a weird bug where only Newfoundland and Alberta were getting immigrants. Newfoundland and Alberta each had around 40 million people or so.

It is tough playing a country in the America's, as the US gets a big bonus to immigration even with zero reforms and slavery.

I just finished a big EU4 binge. It was my first time playing as France any my first as a Western European country. I was penned in most of the time, with England to the north, Spain/Portugal to the south, HRE to the East. I was able to knock out Burgundy, England's continental territory, big chunks of Italy, all of Belgium and half of the Rhineland and Holland. I also took all of Tunisia, half of Algeria, Libya and big chunks of Canada and the US. I should have been satisfied, but I felt that I was still missing something. I have only played countries in eastern and southern Europe such as Muscovy and Byzantium and half of Europe won't jump me if I take territory. It was much easier to become big blobs of doom to crush all enemies if you play far away from Western Europe. It is also much cheaper to core less developed territory in the east,  and you can take more territory with a lower war score needed. It also looks less impressive as in Western Europe provinces are smaller, and your empire looks less impressive compared to the Ottomans or Russia.

I have read about how insanely wealthy northern Italy was in the medieval ages. Genoa and Venice in EU4 are just filthy rich, they are the superpowers of EU4. Has anyone here played as Venice,Genoa or Savoy?

SALE SALE SALE

https://www.humblebundle.com/games/paradox-bundle-2019

donate $1 or more to charity and you get Crusader Kings 2 as well as three other cool games

donate $6 or more and you get Europa Universalis 4 and CK2's The Old Gods DLC

donate $12 or more and get EU4's El Dorado DLC and several other cool games

I have always wanted to get EUIV but was waiting to do so until I had a more powerful computer for it. I don't want to pass this up though.

Do you think a dual core processor with an AMD HD7770 is powerful enough to handle it decently? I recall one of them recommending a 4 core, but maybe that was HOI4.

I don't think you'll have any problem at all and you don't need a quad core. I'm not very good at computer hardware stuff but if I'm doing this benchmark comparison thing correctly then it looks like your computer is over twice as powerful as EU4's recommended system requirements

Quick bro tip : When playing EU4, go to settings and click video, turn off everything except borders and state borders. It made a huge difference for me in terms of mid-late game lag. I just ripped through a Rome game for over a thousand years of game play, and I had zero lag.
