Although a popular figure in US politics nothing could save the Conservative party from a collapsing economy and a looming war with Iran. In 1986 with countless tax cuts and Wall St. deregulation the economy officially fell into recession taking along with it 17 million jobs and a high flying US dollar. President Reagan tried to save it but ultimately failed with his '1987 Reagan/Bush plan' which would give further tax cuts but drastically cut spending. Unions protested and rioting erupted over the U.S. a new hero was needed.

Recognizing that the Conservatives were doomed the begrudgingly nominated Senator John B. Anderson of Illinois. The Republicans too tried to salvage what was possible gave former Governor of Wyoming Stanley K. Hathaway a go.

But no one cared for what they were doing when the Democrats nominated Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro as they choice for President in what was a landslide win for her in the primaries.

Geraldine chose Fmr Governor Bob Graham as her running mate.
Anderson chose Henry Kissinger.
& Hathaway chose Bob Dole.

Congresswoman Geraldine Ferraro (D-NY)/ Governor Bob Graham (D-FL) - 504 EV 67% Popular Vote
Governor Stanley K. Hathaway(R-WY) / Senator Bob Dole (R-KS) - 34 EV 21% Popular Vote
Senator John B. Anderson (C-IL)/ Secretary of State Henry Kissinger (C) - 0 EV 12% PV

Okay I'll try 1992.

President Ferraro arrived in 1992 with an improving economy, since becoming president she'd been credited with the creation of 16 million jobs thanks to the Ferraro/Kennedy plan, interest rates began to flatten out and inflation fell, despite this some industries collapsed especially around what would become known as 'the rust belt'. Ferraro was never blamed for this, most perceived the blame to rest on Reagan and his failures and short comings as president.  With the Ferraro/ Kennedy plan strong ties were made with the Social Democratic party much to the displeasure of the right of the party and in 1991 an official split was declared.

The Modern Whig and the Social Democratic parties combined creating the Modern Democratic party, while the Right formed a new party with the Conservatives to create the party known as the National party who were founded on Christian values with a strong emphasis on 'rural' America. Other parties coming to prominence included 'the Greens' who campaigned for the environment and in the 1990 elections picked up 3 senate seats in Alaska and Hawaii and a special Connecticut election, the Greens would often side with the MD's. Another party of prominence was the Guns and Hunters party who became popular in states like Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma. They campaigned on a greater right to have arms and kill wildlife, they were well known after their ex-Leader George Bush Snr. was involved in a fight with a Greens campaigner.

The Democrats had an uneventful primary series with Ferraro winning all states against next to no opposition, but due to party slip a new VP had to be chosen and in 1991 she replaced National party member Bob Dole with former Governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton.

The National party primaries were extremely ugly with former VP Bob Dole, Congressman Newt Gingrich, Senator John McCain and Senator Lowell P. Weicker Jr. Infighting in the party was strife with results of states often coming in with the tiniest of margins separating all four candidates. Despite all his experience favorite Bob Dole lost out to young gun and champion of conservative values Newt Gingrich. He chose John McCain as his running mate.

The Greens had an un-eventful series with senator of Connecicut, Ralph Nader being chosen with his VP choice being Daniel Akaka.

The Guns and Hunters party nominated the infamous George Bush Snr. who was once a VP nominee in 1980. He chose former senator of Indiana Dan Quayle as his running mate.

Despite all changes Ferraro strengthened her Presidency, in an enormous election landslide.

President Geraldine Ferraro (MD-NY)/Vice President Bill Clinton (MD-AR) - 42.3% PV & 384 EV
Congressman Newt Gingrich (NA-GA)/Senator John McCain (NA-AZ) - 25.1% PV & 88 EV
Senator Ralph Nader (GR-CT)/Senator Daniel Akaka (GR-HI) - 17.2% PV & 46 EV
Director of CIA/Congressman George H. W. Bush (GH-TX)/Senator Daniel Quayle(GH-IN) - 15.4% PV & 20 EV

President Geraldine Ferraro (MD-NY)/Vice President Bill Clinton (MD-AR) - 59.8% PV & 418 EV
Congressman Newt Gingrich (NA-GA)/Senator John McCain (NA-AZ) - 40.2% & 120 EV

Why did you end the previous timeline?
Some of us thought that it was too radically differant and that the political realignments were not realistic. Alternate history still has to be connected from its POD.

So the thought of some people affects the timeline of all? That's hardly fair.

The second term on the McKinley administration was an utter failure, wages were dropping, inflation was rising and tax revenue was at an all time low. Growing tensions with Europe's Great Powers made the American citizens feel threatened and made them no long trust this Republican Party. And to cap of an enormous tide of animosity, in 1903 McKinley was caught red handed canoodling with another woman. Outrage broke throughout the nation at the disgusting man.

In early 1904 with an election coming up the Republicans nominated Ohio Senator Mark Hanna much to the disgust of Progressive American's including Teddy Rooservelt and in 1904 he announced his run as part of the Progressive party, he advocated for a Medicare and Medicaid system and an end to segregation, he was also a big supported of the poor. The Democratic convention emerged with no candidate when the center was the target for a massacre murdering many potential nominees and strong supporters of the party, in the end the party failed to register on the ballot. And as Communism and Socialism teachings spread across the nation a new party was formed compromising of many former Democrat's and Forgotten American's known as the Liberal Socialists, who advocated for equality and higher taxes for the rich. They nominated Eugene V. Debs for President.

VP choices were - Republican William Taft
Progressive Party - Charles W. Fairbanks
Liberal Socialist - John W. Kern

Former Senator Eugene V. Debs (LS-IN)/ Senator John W. Kern (LS-IN) - 246 EV and  40.3% of the popular vote.
Former Governer of New York Theodore Rooservelt (P-NY)/ Senator Charles W. Fairbanks (P-IN) - 155 EV and 35.4% of the popular vote
Senator Mark Hanna (R-OH)/Former Governor of the Philippines William Taft (R-OH) - 75 EV and 21.3% of the popular vote.
Others - 3%

As Sinclair came into his second term the country was facing many problems, the rising abuse and rape of women and increasing fights around bars a clubs lead to stricter regulations on the gaming, alcohol industries with some areas in cities no longer being allowed to sell alcohol. The illegal activities quickly subsided and support for Sinclair grew, and in 1922 despite harsh opposition from the right with the support of the Democrats and Christian Democrats he was able to pass his Medicare and Medicade acts which would become known as Social Security. He also passed the Education of 1922 which saw a major increase on education funding. His popularity continued to rise and in 1923 calls came for Lenroot to step down and Berger to replace him, realizing his dilemma Lenroot swapped to the Socialist Labor party to a wave of criticism from them right.

The Socialist Labor party faced two strong candidates for president in Lenroot and Berger but after Lenroot announced he would be quitting politics former Vice President Victor Berger was chosen as Presidential candidate for the Socialist Labor Party with Governor of New York Franklin D. Roosevelt to be VP.

The Republicans once again nominated Herbert Hoover hoping he would be able to get the victory they believed he deserved, with him they nominated Calvin Collidge for VP, he was widely tipped to make a run for president but was said to have been told not to by his wife.

The Democratic convention once again fell into disarray as anti-Segregationists took control of the convention and ended up nominating Thomas R. Marshall instead of the extremely popular Woodrow Wilson. To appease the party Wilson was chosen as the VP nominee, but that didn't stop the party from being labelled the communists lap-dog a reference to the Socialist Labor parties anti-Segregation platform.

Meanwhile the Christian Democrats announced Billy Sunday as their Presidential nominee as staunch conservative and only a party member due to their Christian values he successfully lobbied for platform and name changed becoming the Christians of America party, their platform advocated low taxes, segregation and opposed social security. William Jennings was chosen as the VP nominee.

The National Republicans would later announce their endorsement of the Christians of America party with all House and Senate members switching to that party.

The election for the first time in many years had a clear winner.

Fmr. Vice President Victor Berger (SL-WI)/ Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt (SL-NY) - 359 EV and 41.3% Popular Vote.
Fmr. Governor Thomas R. Marshall (D-IN)/ Fmr. Governor Woodrow Wilson (D-NJ) - 87 EV and 21.2% Popular Vote
Mr. Herbert Hoover (R-IA)/ Fmr. Governor Calvin Cooldige (R-MA) - 40 EV and 17.5% Popular Vote
Pastor Bill Sunday (CR-IA)/ Fmr. Congressman William J. Bryan (CR-IL) - 45 EV and 15.3% Popular Vote
Others - 4.7%

House:
204 Socialist Labor
91 Republicans
69 Democrats
54 Christians of America
12 Farmers of America
6   Protect our Lands (A small environmentalist party based in New England)

Senate:
36 Socialist Labor
21 Democrats
21 Republicans
10 Christians of America
6 Peace and Liberty
3 Farmers of America
2 Protect our Lands

President Berger managed to get the Democrats, Peace & Libertarians and Protect our Landers
to caucus with him giving him a 65 seat majority in the Senate and a 281 majority in the house.

1932
After the 1928 election a lot of questions were raised as whether the Socialists would interfere in the rise of European fascist dictators and in 1929 it was leaked that the Socialists had considered funding an German and Italian revolution but had backed after fearing internal repercussions. News of this spread to the League of Nations in which the Germans and Italians called for punishment over the potential threat to their sovereignty. Despite all these cries Berger managed to sway new Prime Minister of the UK Ramasay MacDonald and French president Gaston Doumergue into his good books. These strong ties he now held with France, Great Britain the Soviets, Cuba and Mexico strengthened the US's position in the world and together they squashed the Italian and German screams by saying they should be punished for human rights breaches. Hitler would later famously retorted.

'They say we abuse humans, they're economical system is an abuse of humans.'

Together with new alliances formed US exports of manufactured goods exploded with companies like Kellogg, Ford, Chrysler and Pfizer becoming well known international brands. With a booming manufacturing and business sector the presidency of Berger was strengthened when the Socialists made enormous gains in the House & Senate in 1930. However ongoing racial violence and intolerance continued to grow in the southern states which led to Berger's 1930 act to end all segregation and in 1931 his laws were passed resulting in an unprecedented attack on African Americans in the South. Leaders of the civil rights movements including Martin Luther King Sr and others called for the president to intervene in these ruthless attacks on human life. In 1931 for the first time in a long time martial law was declared in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia. Withing a matter of months public executions of African Americans greatly decreased and the leadership of the KKK was all but decimated. Despite the success pastor Billy Sunday labelled these attacks on the Southern people a disgrace and once again announced his run for president of the United States.

While the US maid inroads on ending racial hatred in the East the rise of Japanese hatred towards Chinese men and women and the German attacks on the Jewish people lead to what would be called 'the Speech of the Minority' a famous speech by President Berger when he addressed the League of Nations in 1932. An excerpt included

"We will no longer stand for this vile and disgusting behavior of the Japanese and German nations, we are all the same we are all made the same and the fact some people have the audacity to claim they are better sickens me."

This was the last speech President Berger would ever make in front of the League of Nations as he would die in office two weeks later of a massive heart attack. His state funeral was attended by all living former presidents and many international dignitaries. FDR would assume the remaining few months of his presidency. He would go down as one of the greatest Presidents of all time.

The Socialist Labor party had no challenge nominating President Franklin D. Roosevelt for president, they made an enormous move by nominating Fmr. Governor of Massachusetts and the first ever female VP candidate Frances Perkins.

Meanwhile for the third time in a row Pastor Bill Sunday was once again nominated by the Christian Alliance winning every single delegate vote at their convention. Controversy erupted at the convention when William J Simmons leader of the KKK was nominated for VP, causing quite a few minority members to erupt in anger screaming 'Hatred is not the act of God!'

The Democrats nominated Governor of Ohio George White, hoping his charm and charisma would put them onto the second ballot after having missed out last time, realizing they could win Ohio to strengthened their position they nominated Fmr. Governor of Ohio James M. Cox.

Charles Curtis won the Republican nomination choosing business man Frank Knox as his VP.

Republicans and the Christian Alliance together campaigned against the end of Segregation and the godless policies of the Socialist Party. They stood together on lower taxes, smaller government and a creation of the America bill which would make English the official language and Christianity the official religion.

The Socialists campaigned on the strong economy and their strong position in the world while Dem's campaigned they were the more moderate party, both tried to ignore their anti-segregation platform hoping they'd be able to win support in the south.

The first ballot was held one week before the second ballot with results as follow,

President Franklin D Roosevelt (SL-NY)/ Fmr. Governor Frances Perkins (SL-NY) - 288 EV & 36.3% Popular Vote
Pastor Billy Sunday (CA-IA)/ Mr. William J Simmons (CA-GA) - 91 EV & 21.3% Popular Vote
Governor George White (D-OH)/ Fmr. Governor James M. Cox (D-OH) 81 EV & 23.4% Popular Vote
Senator Charles Curtis (R-KS)/ Mr. Frank Knox (R-IL) 71 EV & 19.0% Popular Vote

Despite a lower Popular Vote the Christian Alliance went onto the second round with the Democrats calling it a slap in the face to the votes of America.

President Franklin D Roosevelt (SL-NY)/ Fmr. Governor Frances Perkins (SL-NY) - 357 EV & 60.2% Popular Vote
Pastor Billy Sunday (CA-IA)/ Mr. William J Simmons (CA-GA) - 174 EV & 39.8% Popular Vote

House
201 Socialist Labor
98 Christian Alliance
76 Democrats
46 Republicans
7 Communists
7 Others

SA, D, C and others caucus together.

Senate
41 Socialist Labor
22 Democrats
21 Christian Alliance
12 Republicans
4 Communists

The election was hailed an enormous success for the left in the US and the world.

1944
Presidents Perkins first term was met with mixed results and quite a lot of animosity.

Although Labor figures were strong and unemployment low, Perkin's plan to create a minimum wage was met with extreme hostility from fiscal conservatives despite this with the support of all Socialists, Communists and around half of the Christian's the bill was passed angering the Republican's and creating a rift in the Christian Alliance that would cripple the party in the 1942 mid-terms and the 1944 election. With the bill passed attacks from the business community on Perkins and the Socialists savaged the image of the party but when she was attacked for not being male the feminist movement throughout the nation rose up calling for anti-discrimination laws to be created. Perkins was extremely cautious of enacting such laws and promised if she won re-election and had support for the house and senate she'd really make strides to end all this hatred.

Despite fears the economy would collapse all the wage hike did was increase the buying power of the consumer which increased tax revenue  and business profits. And with a nation at peace not much could go wrong. It was all smooth sailing in the 1942 mid-terms for the Socialists in which gains were made in the House, Senate and Governors mansions.

However disaster struck when in 1943 Germany supported by Italy and Spain invaded Poland. Fearing the decline of Communism throughout Poland and honoring a protection agreement with Poland, President Perkins with the support of Great Britain, France, the Soviets and many Baltic states declared war on what would be known as 'the Axis'. Three weeks after war was declared with full House and Senate support military funding was increased including the expansion of the Hawaiian naval base 'Pearl Harbor' construction begun straight away and over 500 fighter planes and 20 ships were sent to the base in case the US would have to declare war in Axis supporter Japan. Weeks after the construction began the Japanese on advice from the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor killing 3 421 troops destroying 324 planes and sinking all 20 ships. With full House and Senate support the US declared war on Japan backed by the pacific power Great Britain.

The united states rallied around President Perkins and her support was reaching as high as 94% as the onset of election campaigns took off.

The Socialists unanimously re-nominated President Perkins and Vice President Henry Wallace.

The Christian Alliance hoping to for the first time win the White house changed their platform hoping to steal support from the Republicans switch to a more economically conservative platform which sent countless supporters straight to the Socialist Labor party. The Alliance went on to nominate Episcopalian Mr. Wendell Willkie with VP Charles L. McNary

The Republicans opposing the unions nominated staunch conservative Senator Robert Taft and tried to win the Socialist north by nominating Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg.

The Communists hoping to have some impact on the race nominated extreme Communist William Z. Foster who was extremely popular within unions as well as choosing Harry Haywood as their VP nominee.

President Frances Perkins (SL-NY)/ Vice President Henry Wallace (SL-IA) 327 EV & 36.3%
Senator Robert Taft (R-OH)/ Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg (R-MI) 113 EV & 27.6%
Mr. Wendell WilLkie (CA-IN)/ Senator Charles L. McNary (CA-OR) 83 EV 27.4%
William Z. Foster (C-MA)/ Harry Haywood (C-NE) 8 EV 8.7%

President Frances Perkins (SL-NY)/ Vice President Henry Wallace (SL-IA) 334EV 56.4%
Senator Robert Taft (R-OH)/ Senator Arthur H. Vandenberg (R-MI) 197EV 43.6%

1960
The first term of Robert Taft was marred by indecision and lack of support from all other parties and a larger chunk of his own party.

Taft continuing what would be labeled as radical right-wing policy tried to lower income taxes to a flat rate of 22% a move that would've crippled the nations budget and economy to make up for the loss of money he announced plans to end medicaid and medicare as well as cut education, health and countless other services that Socialists had worked so hard to install. The move was an utter failure and was voted down 400 v 35 in the house. The move outraged the nation who were further enraged by poor economic figures as over the first two years of his term unemployment had risen to it's highest level of all time at 26%, with a recession setting in Taft continued to look to the right to see what he could do, and announced an enormous cut back in government spending while the Socialists called for a more moderate to left approach of investment in industry. Ultimately neither plan would pass the house and the nation would lose all confidence in the mid-terms for the Republicans.

The 1958 mid-terms were an embarrassment for the president as his party lost over 150 house seats to fall down to a lowly 67, and they further lost 25 seats in the senate most of which the Socialists gained. Fearing a major wipe out in the next election the Republican's enacted a war on Communism attempting to outlaw the Socialist Labor and Communist party, the move was an utter fail with the Supreme Court with a 100% majority declaring the decision un-constitutional.

The elections rolled around and despite fierce opposition knowing Taft would indefinably lose the election he was renominated as they didn't want to waste a future candidate on an impossible election. Goldwater was also renominated.

On the Socialist side young Senator John F. Kennedy a champion of civil rights and liberal economic policy was nominated with popular Texan Lydon B. Johnson. The race was predicted to be a close one but in the end JFK won every state due to his charisma and likability.

The Christian Alliance angered over the loss in 1956 despite having a sitting President nominated hard lining Baptist Storm Thurmond who was once a strong liberal had become over the years a staunch conservative. His VP choice was Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr.

The Communists nominated the popular Gus Hall and Eugene Dennis.

Senator John F. Kennedy (SL-MA)/ Senator Lydon B. Johnson (SL-TX) 414 EV & 51.8%
President Robert Taft (R-OH)/ Vice President Barry Goldwater (R-AZ) 4 EV & 8.3%
Senator Storm Thurmond (CA-SC)/ Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. (CA-MA) 95 EV & 27.3%
Mr Gus Hall (C-NY)/ Mr Eugene Dennis (C-WA) 18 EV & 20.9%

Senator John F. Kennedy (SL-MA)/ Senator Lydon B. Johnson (SL-TX) 483 EV & 69.8%
Senator Storm Thurmond (CA-SC)/ Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. (CA-MA) 48 EV & 30.2%

The election was an amazing win for the Socialists and the Communists with both receiving their highest popular vote of all time.

House
277 Socialist Labor
63 Communist
60 Christian Alliance
35 Republicans

Senate
52 Socialist Labor
20 Communist
19 Christian Alliance
9 Republicans

This is an alternate history, I highly doubt Elizabeth Perkins would've been anywhere near president. Smiley
