I'm tremendously happy you're taking up a game again, Lumine! 1972 was a blast and I absolutely want to contribute to this one as well. (I'd still love to see a resolution to 1972, btw.)

Signing up as Congressman Walter Jones for the Republicans.

Lumine said "30 minutes left" at 8:34, so I thought I'd be okay if I was two minutes early. How complicated!

Sarah Palin shall officially end her campaign and endorse Walter Jones for the Republican nomination.

Hvala, brate!

I hate to ask this, Lumine, but could we get one more day for this turn? School just began this week and it hasn't been the kindest welcome back.

My posts are gonna be trickling in now over the next two or three hours. When you just started a new job and had five assignments due in the same day, it leaves one with little room for fun. Tongue

Next turn, could we see some GE polls against specific candidates? That would be interesting.

Not until the number of candidates drops a bit, because eight possible Democratic and Republican candidates for match-ups is too much for me.

I understand.

One other question I've had on my mind recently is with the delegates. Are delegates going to be given out the same way for each state as IRL (e.g. Florida is winner-take-all) or will it be proportional?

Representative Upton drops out in the race of the nomination and endorsed Fmr. Governor Fletcher hoping for a Vp pick when the convention comes around.
RIP JONES CHANCE AT FLIPPING UPTON VOTERS

lol like people who were attracted to a candidate calling for repealing Taft-Hartley would switch over en masse to a doctrinaire conservative

Ernie is only socially doctrinaire conservative. Not so much economically.

Well, it hasn't been evident nearly as much compared to the guy who's talked about bringing back Glass-Steagal. Upton voters are likely people who just vote for the contrarians in the party, so the majority will most likely go to Jones or Carolla. When I got the endorsements of both Jindal and Palin, I definitely didn't get the majority right away.

Anyway, Lumine will be the ultimate judge here, not your friend Wink

You're comparing people that had anywhere from 6% to 25% nationally to someone with barely 1% in national polling. Upton voters are likely going to be swayed by his endorsement at the last minute.

I thought we were talking about New Hampshire here. That's the only place where Upton mattered and he was at 6%, so he was still matching Palin's national numbers. That's why Jason came to your rescue lol

Next turn will actually begin tomorrow. Not sure if to make it an 11 day turn until the GOP SC Primary and the DEM NV Caucus (Jan 21) or a more frantic 20 day turn to extend to the DEM SC Primary and the Florida Primary for both parties.

I'll be accepting feedback from the players on whether they prefer to cover all this in a single turn or whether they prefer having two.

I'd rather have 11. SC (or even NV for the Dems) could be a good catalyst for momentum going into the later primaries in the month.

An announcement from Walter Jones

Friends,

You may have been wondering why you haven't seen me on the campaign trail in the past few days. A recent trip to the doctor has led me to discover that I have stage IV prostate cancer. With this development, I have had to rethink many things about my life. What it has caused me to realize is that I must fight this cancer with every ounce of energy in me. Unfortunately, this means that I can no longer have my first priority be politics. For this reason, I am hereby suspending my campaign for President.

I do not take this decision lightly. We have come so far in this campaign, from 2% to being a viable contender. I also must thank the passion of all of my supporters throughout this process, as well as the friends and family who have kept me strong along the way. I am forever indebted to all of you. Together, we highlighted the corruption of Washington, and we showed a better path for this nation: one of peace, prosperity, and the American way of life. This campaign may be over, but the spirit of the people has been ignited for years to come.

I also don't want my announcement to mean that I will stay quiet. I endorse my good friend Congressman Ron Paul for the Republican nomination. Serving in the House with Ron for many years, I know he is a man of profound integrity. He means what he says, and nobody can corrupt him. He is just the kind of leader we desperately need in the White House, and I encourage all of my supporters to stand with Congressman Paul in the primaries ahead.

The fight to take back this country isn't over. Once I finish my battle with cancer, I will return in full force to stand up to Washington. Thank you all for the support you've given me over the past year.

I figured this would happen eventually

If I were Jones, I would endorse Fletcher. This seems off.

It's really the most logical decision out there. Jones endorsed Paul in both of his campaigns and they've always been really close to each other in public.

Couldn't just wait a few turns and have Jones re-enter the race?

He left having been diagnosed with stage IV prostate cancer. It wouldn't be the most realistic thing for him to come back so suddenly.

Denied. Brown was literally elected Senator a year ago, making a presidential run very implausible.

Didn't expect to hear this. Brown was elected to the Senate only two months after Christie was for Governor, and would have served for just about two years now--longer than Christie did when he first started running. Brown also got a bit of speculation really early on. If you'd still like me to find another candidate, I can try looking.
