How come when Iran is building nukes, everyone is threatening them with severe sanctions and isolation, but when North Korea and Pakistan were building nukes, the worldwide reaction to it wasn't nearly as harsh (especially for Pakistan)?

The world did (and does) bitch quite a lot about N.Korea having nukes.  Pakistan does a lot less douchebaggery on the world stage than Iran or N.Korea.  Granted there is some potential for internal upheaval in Pakistan, but it's probably likelier in N.Korea or Iran.

Also, as I've said in the past, while nobody wants N.Korea to have nukes, it's less of a big deal than Iran having them because the Far East is relatively stable whereas the Middle East is in a constant state of clusterfuck.

Didn't the world only start paying attention and caring about Iran having nukes after Ahmadinejad was elected and started threatening Israel? I don't remember anyone really caring about Iran's nculear program before 2005--it was only in 2005 and 2006 that it really became a pressing issue for many countries, including the U.S. If Iran was smart, they should have done what Pakistan did in the 1990s and continued being quiet and not threaten anyone while simulatenously continuing to build nukes. That way, I seriously doubt that any country besides Israel would have cared that much about Iran having nukes.

You didn't hear anything pre 2005 because that's when they started really working at it.

Well yeah, but they didn't.  They continue to be threatening asshats.  To the region and actual asshats to their own people.

In regards to the Iranian nuclear program, I read that it was actually begun (or revealed) in 2002. Yet there were essentially very few compalins about it until 2005-2006.

It seems your premise is incorrect.  Just because the press ignored it or you/we forgot it doesn't mean it didn't happen.  As they get closer to completion you would expect the level of complaining about it to rise.

All right, I get your point. To me it seemed that most countries only began to worry extremely about Iran's nuclear program after Ahmadinejad was elected. I mean, I don't think worries increased among the international community when Pakistan and North Korea became closer to developing a nuke, but I suppose you may try to prove me wrong even on that point.

Like you said earlier about Pakistan, they both (NK and Pak.) kind of tricked the rest of the world and just kind of up and had nukes one day (thanks to our "friends" in the PRC).
