Doug Hoffman has to be the most obvious one. Owens squeezed by 48-46 while Dougie got 6%.

the most annoying part is that Hoffman bowed out of the race and endorsed Doheny - but not until a few days after it was too late to take his name off the ballot.

Rep. Joe Donnelly won by a couple thousand votes where the Dems had financed the Libertarian who took $10k

Gabrielle Giffords was probably saved by the Libertarian too (48-47-4 with 99% reporting but not called yet).

On the other hand, it looks like GOP will pick up IL-08 from Melissa Bean by about 800 votes with the Green Party guy getting over 6000.

Jeff Perry in MA-10 was shot down by the Independents since Keating barely got 47%.

One of the Independents in MA-10 was a former Dem. State Rep (I think she got 5%), so that doesn't necessarily mean the votes there would've gone to Perry.

Yeah, you can't tell that one with certainty. She was running some moderate hero campaign from what I've been able to Google up. Also, AZ-07 what's the story behind the Indie guy there? He might have saved Mr. Boycott-my-state from losing to that rocket scientist.

Another one was a former Conservadem mayor of Quincy who was widely suspected of running in order to drain votes from Keating's base.

Perry's being a flawed candidate is another reason not to assume he would have topped 50% in a two-man race.

In California 11, the only third party candidate is from the American Independent Party, a holdover from the George Wallace campaign of 1968, and he's keeping Harmer from a majority. However, I wonder how many people vote for the AIP because it has the word independent on it, not realizing that its to the right of the GOP.

I guess nearly all of them.
