I am glad you found your way back to Texas. My uncle was the same way as you when he had to move back to California for work from Texas. He just bitched continuously for two years till he finally got transferred back to Texas. I even helped him move back!

I guess once you go Texan, you never go back.

arrived in Boston today for my last week...leaving Saturday for good (though John Hancock is attempting to persuade me to do some work remotely, which could bring me back to Boston for a week sometime later this year).

6 months with no panties on head? Or did you sneak some with you on the plane?

I remember the various threads that came about after this. The jmfcsts wasn't happy with his trip, IIRC.

no, I was home for 90% of the weekends, I usually departed Boston for Houston every Thursday around 5pm and returned to Boston just after midnight on Sunday Night...so I was home for 3 days out of the week.

Even though the stress was comparatively minor to life's other possible problems, being apart from the family most of the week really really sucked for me, probably about the hardest protracted thing I've gone through.

I could never have a career that required me to travel full time. Skype was a big help, though.

I think it's mostly a mental thing of having to go back and forth for 6 months...when I went to London 3 times in 2007 for Shell, I only had the wife and 2 oldest kids with me for the first trip...but the next two trips weren't bad because I knew I was only going to be there a couple of weeks before returning home.  Besides, in London I was within 5 minutes walking distance to work and stayed in Leicester Square, in the middle of everything.  (I miss London!  What a world-class city that is!  Better than any city in the US, by far.)..but I was living in a college slum in Boston, next to nothing of interest.

Also...just a reminder...none of the Boston members of the Forum were willing to meet up with the jmfcst...nor was Andrew willing when I was in London...just wanted to point that out.
