PLEASE READ BEFORE VOTING!

I cannot force anybody to vote in a particular way, but I will ask you to please vote as you would if you were a member of the Conservative Party in 1990.

This election will use the rules that were in place at the time, that is, for a candidate to win outright in the first round, he or she must win a majority of voters and lead by at least 15% over the nearest rival. Abstentions count toward these thresholds, so if you find that neither candidate is acceptable, feel free to abstain by voting for that option above. If Thatcher does not win outright in this round, she with withdraw (as she did IRL), nominations will be reopened, and we will move on to the second round.

This poll will remain open for 3 days.

If I were a Tory, I would've voted for Heseltine. My views would certainly have been compatible with his more than Thatcher, who I would've been sick to death of by 1990.

Well, this was a much bigger blowout than I had expected. Michael Heseltine is elected leader of the Conservative Party.

Heseltine would have lost less seats in 1992, allowing him to keep his majority until 1997, when he would have lost in a landslide (but not a wipeout like John Major's). Then Blair's majorities would have been far smaller, and David Cameron would have a majority now.
