I think you should vote and advocate for parties based on issues rather than intangible factors as much as possible, because positions on issues show what a candidate actually plans to do and intangibles are often twisted by the lens you receive information through. Unfortunately so are issues themselves in this day and age, but only so much spin can be done there without it being too obvious to those who pay close attention. Politicans by their nature are salesmen of their message and actors of an image that they want to project.

Being a member of a party does not mean you will always support that party's candidates. I vote for Democrats from time to time I think for whatever reason the Democrat would be better for the job, of course taking into account quite strongly their positions since that is what they plan to do if elected.

Clarence,

You are a gentleman and a scholar (and a fattie lover Tongue)

I think you are a disillusioned Republican.  If you feel you want to be a Democrat, then you are more than welcome to become part of the party.  But perhaps you'd be better served as being a sane voice in the GOP.  I think you'd probably feel more at home in a reformed GOP than in the Democratic party.

You think that being a Republican means blindly following the party line, and anything short of 100% fealty to that automatically makes you a Democrat? No wonder the Republicans are losing if that's the public mindset! I would define you as a Republican leaning independant. Feel free to vote for as many Democrats as you like Smiley

Hold the line. It's not a taboo to disagree with your party on some issues.

Let me just say that I think it's pretty awesome that we even have someone on the forum who voted in '64. Smiley

For reason that should be obvious, I am saddened that you voted for Johnson. Sad Tongue

In all seriousness, I don't think you're a Democrat. From what I know about you you're conservative on just about every issue, & I would argue that you're position on the disability UN act is consistent with being conservative, although what you call your ideology is irrelevant. The point is that it seems like your views are overall closer to the Republican Party than the Democratic Party. That doesn't mean you should vote for the Republican candidate in every single election, but the way I see it being an Independent is useless because you can't vote in the primaries, so if I were you I would stay in the Republican Party.

Yes.  I am currently getting my pre-requisites and am planning on majoring in PoliSci.

Are you being home schooled?

No I think he means taking prerequisite courses in college.
