Inspired by the "Shootings" threads ...

I made a chart from the official 2011 Crime Report by the Austrian Interior Ministry:

I created 4 categories:

2011 "murders" from §75 of the Austrian Law, incl. "murder attempts" where the victim was not dead.

2011 "total intentional homicides" from §75-79 of the Austrian Law, inc. "murder attempts where the victim was not dead. Those include not just "murder", but also "manslaughter" (§76), "killing another person at his own request" (§77), "assistance with a suicide" (§78) and "killing of a newborn child after birth" (§79).

The lower 2 tables are the same, just excluding attempts.

...

I highlighted the tables that can be compared with the US Crime Report 2011 from the FBI in blue, because the FBI Crime Report only counts "MURDERS" where the victim was dead. So, without any attempts of murder:

Interesting statistic:

Of the 166 murders according to the §75 (incl. attempts), in 21 cases a gun ("Schusswaffe") was used. Out of these 21 cases of gun use during completed and attempted murders, 17 cases involved "shots fired", 3 cases involved "threatening with a gun" and 1 case involved "carrying a gun".

So, it can be said that in about 10% of Austrian murder cases (attempted and completed) a gun was used to either kill a person or attempt to kill a person.

According to the US FBI Crime Report 2011, in 68% of all murders a gun was used.
