Definitely North Carolina for me. It's the only notably desirable one.

Florida: Sprawly tourist trap mess, though I suppose giving us Alan Grayson is a plus forsure.
Indiana: Rural and boring
New York: Has some worthwhile areas like Newburgh, but also has uber-creepy Kiryas Joel and awful exurbs.
Texas: Exurban Beaumont, bleh
Vermont: Cool for being Vermont but still rural and boring.
Virginia: Rural and boring.
California: BURN IT TO THE GROUND.

I haven't been to CA, IN, TX, or VA.
I've only passed through VT.
That leaves FL and NY as ones I could speak to. As a younger man I would take Orange, NY, but perhaps I would prefer Orange, FL as an old to enjoy more time outside with better weather.

I am amazed that Muon2 has not been to Orange Co., CA. He's been close! Anyway, LA is better, but MY place.

The one in New York is quite nice, though admittedly the only one I've been to.

California.

I know, it's awful in certain respects....but it's still the one I'd prefer to live in.

But for trips on separate occasions to LA and SD I've not been to SoCal. Sad
