Once the other states see how much money comes in from this, it's a matter of time before the legalization wave spreads across the nation......politicians can't pass up on money.

Good for Colorado.  It's time to legalize and tax marijuana, instead of wasting tax-payer money fighting it.

Marijuana should be legal and nontaxable (other than normal sales taxes).

How much will an eighth of weed cost under this new Colorado scheme? And can one still get it delivered to one's door by an enterprising young entrepreneur? Those are the important questions.

Of course sales taxes should apply to marijuana.

This is far beyond Colorado's normal sales tax.

Not that surprising. A lot of jurisdictions tax smokes/alcohol more than most products.

The problem is in the limit of only 6 plants per individual. I don't know how this will apply to grow operations. The question is, can people pool together and grow their plants in one warehouse, for example. Will the government allow the development of economies of scale to lower the price of weed? And for good quality weed, it will have to be grown indoors with precise control of the environment. That costs money.

the real question is when will Obama deploy 5000 or so DEA agents armed with assault rifles and cluster bombs, and will they approach Denver from the west or the east.

I've always found the argument that we can tax marijuana by legalizing it offensive to my sensibilities. Naturally, were we to legalize it, I'd want taxes on it to be as low as possible.

Where does it say anything about other states jumping up and down ready to legalize marijuana so they can collect more taxes?

Why is everyone so upset about taxing marijuana? I thought the argument for legalization was it could be regulated so that it is less dangerous. And no one can say that marijuana is not unhealthy. This system regulates marijuana so its less dangerous, discourages use through taxation, and provides the government with money to educate why its unhealthy, and fight importation of more dangerous drugs, like heroine.

Yeah, that sounds lower than cigarette taxes, which IIRC are often over 100%. Pretty sure the combined federal, NYS and NYC cigarette excise tax, along with sales tax, is almost 200%.

Can canna-tourists taxes pay public servants' wages? If so, then great! And I don't mean in the way Tweed proposed.

What's bullsh**t is how low they are in California.
