Blaming anyone but Cuccinelli for losing what was an extremely winnable election against an extremely weak Democratic nominee is sad and pathetic.
Well he deserves a lot of blame as well since he ran a shi!ty campaign esp. in the home stretch.
Both were the worst choices for their party. Poor Bolling, he would be an alright Governor, and he would destroy McAuliffe, and the fact that Democrats chose McAuliffe with no major competition is really sad.
Honestly, who they have run instead? Deeds again? Give up the VA Senate seat with Warner? Some no name who didn't have McAuliffe's money? I get that McAuliffe sucked, but there were no better candidates and at least he ran a relatively mistake-free campaign.
Republicans were rightfully licking their lips at this race and let Cuccinelli blow it. There are just no excuses for the type of campaign he ran. Had a candidate as strong as Warner run, this race would have been won by a margin nearly as large as Christie.
And don't even get me started on Bill Bolling. The guy tried to deal himself into being the nominee, got burned by Cuccinelli, and played cry baby moderate for the rest of the campaign. The fact that some no name like Robert Sarvis got 7 percent of the vote and nearly polled himself into the debates shows that Bolling at least would have made both McAuliffe and Cuccinelli sweat if he ran on an independent platform.
If moderates really want to take back the party they need to take Murkowski's example and fight back, even if these cooks get the nomination.
