The reason people don't like him is that he is a perfect counterexample to all the things most Americans believe in most fervently. That everybody has the inner strength to rise above externalities. That Christianity, even if imperfectly construed by humans, is a positive force on society. That all people can be above average. Cognitive dissonance is a  difficult thing for all of us. It's far easier to blame Bushie than to question our most basic assumptions.

Hey, folks, about to start church, but just wanted to say I'm alive and well.  I'm starting to focus on the 2014/2016 elections so that's what I'll spend my posts talking about.  Peace!

Bushie is the forum's best example of America, rightly or wrongly.

No. The average American does not quit their job because of a spam email advertising an obvious scam that can be exposed in less than five minutes using Google, and can hold down a job for more than two months.

Your perception of America is probably wrong, then.

There are much better examples of posters who are more representative of the average American.  Bushie is only an example of the worst stereotypes.

Obviously, you can't average people, but it's fair to say the overwhelming majority of people do not self-select to post on the Atlas Forum. Nobody here is average. We're an odd bunch. Average people are more concerned with Kim Kardashian's wardrobe than the recount for Virginia Attorney General.

He's no worse than anyone else when they are free to act unaccountable for their own behavior. Give me a hundred opportunities to steal with no repercussions guaranteed and I'll score an A in self-loathing and greed. What's more, I'll write an essay justifying my behaviour for extra credit.

Couldn't you just plagiarize some essay off of the interwebs and save yourself the trouble?

Yes, I could probably just copy and paste selections from the Update. Good point.

I never read the Update thread

All I know about him is that he is a weird Oklahoman dude who plans his life out way too much and masturbates frequently.
That's what makes him amusing, I guess.
