Is there an accompanying story with this PDF?  Just wondering because it's hosted on Politico's server.

Not sure. Harry Enten (of 538.com) linked to it on his twitter.

Why would they want to release this? It shows him tied for a distant 3rd in the first round, then 4th in the second round.

Right now Christie, Rubio, Bush and Kasich are all vying to be the Establishment choice. The more support they can get from donors and other elites leading up to NH the better. For a long time Rubio was considered the establishment favorite after Bush faded. Christie's people are trying to show that he is doing as well as Rubio, and therefore you should give him money.

Well it isn't that great considering he is running behind Rubio and hurting the rest of the GOP in the process.

It is all about expectations. Rubio has been the golden boy for months and Christie was written off. It wasn't too long ago Christie was relegated to the kiddie table. It is all about momentum. He has caught up to Rubio, that is the point. Also there are lots of process stories about Rubio's strange campaign strategy.

Not sure how he is 'hurting' the GOP. Christie was once the front-runner. He is positioning himself as the 'comeback kid' (and remember when Bill Clinton announced himself as the comeback kid in 1992 it was based on coming in second in NH behind Tsongas).

I think I know what the GOP beltway is doing here. Keep Rubio, Kasich, Jeb and Christie and try to add all their numbers together. If Trump wins NH barely and the GOP beltway candidates are able to gather at least the same number of delegates Trump has (or more), it would all depend on which candidates pass the 10% threshold.

I had lunch Saturday with a nonpartisan community leader from southern NH. This poll looks consistent with his sense, a big lead for Trump and a clump well back.

So they will win the battle and lose the war. Ultimately, the momentum from a win or strong place would be much more helpful to the establishment cause than a mere extra delegate or two.
