A huge part of Rubio's failure to gain traction so far I think is GOP primary voters opposition to Rubio's role in the gang of 8 legal immigration expansion+legalization legislation.  Had he opposed it from the beginning, or at least kept a low profile on the issue and then voted against it like most GOP senators at the end, I wonder how he'd be faring now.  No worse and probably quite a bit better probably.

if Rubio hadn't been a part of the gang of 8 then he wouldn't have the media adoration that has so far made me a big candidate and thus he wouldn't be anywhere.

He'd have much more love from grassroots conservatives. He was third in my ranks behind Paul and Cruz because of the Gang of 8.

Ted Cruz may not have run if that were the case, and Rubio would have consolidated the level of support he has now far earlier (albeit a more conservative group). But he may not have been seen as acceptable to the establishment.

He'd have been more acceptable to the Establishment because he'd have had the tact not to call Mitch McConnell a liar.  Rubio might have been able to have his cake and eat it too had he not joined the Gang of 8.

He would be out of the race. The gang of 8 is why he's the darling of the ball.

He'd be on track to lose re-election to the People's Hero Alan GRAYSON!
