Supreme Court Justice Ted Cruz decides to step down from his seat to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination in 2020, as he thinks this is his last chance to be President and the economy is rapidly recovering from recession, making a win of the incumbent Republican Party a sure bet. He runs basically the same campaign he did in 2016, lambasting Trump as an untrue conservative. The media considers his bid to be a Reagan-1976 type situation. Trump pledges to support the nominee, regardless of who wins, however, he promises to never again re-nominate Cruz for any judicial position for any reason due to his disloyalty.

Who do you vote for?

Open primary, so Democrats should vote, too.

In this scenario, Cruz, if his bid is serious.  If it isn't, I would support Trump because I wouldn't want a serious primary challenge to open the door for the Democrats to win.  Of course, a lot depends on what happens over the next three years.

Cruz, since despite my misgivings with him, I think he's actually more restrained and principled than Donald Trump.
