Marty,

Images from imgur cannot be displayed on Atlas. But I have saved and uploaded the picture below. Copy and paste it into the OP.

It is incredibly beautiful. I love gazing up at the stars in the night sky; it always relaxes and awes me to see them fixed up there, knowing some of them may even have already died. There are innumerable stars and planets, too many for us to even see in our expanding universe; just think of how many worlds may potentially be inhabited with life and the amazing physical forces required to work together as they abide by natural laws to create our universe. Then reflect on your place within it all; infinitesimally small, the product of billions of years of solar, planetary, and life form development, and yet here we are, in this moment, utilizing the incredibly evolved physical and mental capacities we possess, contemplating all of it.

Thanks guys. What an amazing view. Even the photograph is somewhat breathtaking.

It reminds me of that line from Huckleberry Finn. Huck said how he and Tom Sawyer at night lie in the grass look up into the nighttime sky try to count all the stars that will be on Counting. And then they would talk about whether the Stars we're made or just kind of.... happened

Always been been a fan of made, personally.

I assume that there's been some amount of image enhancement in that photo. I've seen the Milky Way at high altitude in the Rockies and it is spectacular. However, you would not be able to make out the landscape if it was dark enough to see that much detail in the Milky Way. There's also a lot less blue in the sky on those nights than in the photo.

Couldn't that depend on the length of the exposure?

I could be, but I can't see enough detail to know. On a long exposure the stars would appear to move with respect to the landscape due to the Earth's rotation. The effect would be that the brighter stars would appear as slight streaks. Note the way stars turn from points to small lines in this image.
