Against a Romney or a Rubio, maybe. Not against Trump.

Jim Justice's presence on the ticket would contradict Sanders' message. Joe Manchin might be a better option, and I think they could narrowly win WV against an establishment R.

Nope, because Justice would never be his VP.

Not happening, Manchin practically controls the state party, and if he did lose, Jean would lose in a landslide.

I'm LMAO over how some partisan Democrats viewed Justice as the solution to their woes.  It was an astonishing lack of research.

Justice was the new Ed Zorinsky.  Zorinsky was a Republican Mayor of Omaha who got it in his head that it was HIS turn to become Senator from NE in 1976.  The NE GOP had other ideas, tapping Rep. John McCollister (R-Omaha) for the open seat.  When it became clear Zorinsky would not be the GOP nominee, he announced for the seat as a Democrat. (Omaha's mayor and the NE state legislature is non-partisan, so this appeared less crass than it seemed.)  Zorinsky campaigned as a conservative Democrat, defeated McCollister, and was re-elected in 1982, serving until his death in 1987.  Zorinsky was not a "movement conservative" by any means, but he was to the right in the Democratic caucus, and he was to the right somewhat on labor and economics issues.  He avoided supporting the National Ticket conspicuously (although he never conspicuously shunning them, either).  Had he lived to run for reelection in 1988 he MAY have switched to the GOP, but the Democrats were back in the majority in the Senate, and they needed Zorinsky for their majority, so he probably would have soldiered on as something of a DINO, but a guy who was not conspicuous in his apostasies.

That's Jim Justice.  He's not a Fob James who ran as a Democrat in 1978 because of the then-one party nature of AL.  He's a guy who switched parties because HIS party (the party on the rise) was choosing a former Democrat who switched parties to be their Governor.  That's how Justice won; he won the votes of Republicans who (A) knew what they were getting and (B) weren't in Bill Cole's corner.  Justice fooled folks and came out into the open this week.  Plus, he's a dirty energy entrepreneur.  Why Atlas Democrats would boost this guy for the national ticket out of anything but desperation is beyond me.

West Virginia had more than the twice the absolute margin in votes as Colorado, in a much smaller state with much lower turnout.

What if Eugene Debs rises from the dead and becomes Governor of Indiana?

Do you really think that because something technically has a chance of happening in an alternate universe that it actually could happen in this universe?

So 3 tossups can be compared to Trump's best state?

No, this ticket would not win it.  However, WV could swing D in this scenario, and depending on the national PV, WV might even trend D for the first time in forever.

While WV is one of the most GOP states in the US right now, I don't really put it in the same category as a state like WY or OK.  Its trend was so sudden and dramatic, that I believe there is a certain degree of elasticity in its voters and it could trend back with the right messaging and candidates.

If the Dems ran a ticket like this for a few cycles in a row, WV could actually become a swing state, or at least competitive.  Of course, the likelihood of that is pretty low.

to be fair i doubt the OP expected the party switch of Jim Justice. Very few of us did.

If I had looked more carefully into Justice's background as a lifelong Republican until 2015, I would almost have expected this.
