in the middle ages.  Not any of this theories, just basic things like 'was he accurate?' and 'was he complete.'

I was reading a book in the American Heritage series, "Mysteries of the Past" on the age old question 'why didn't the Ancients (Romans mostly) develop machinery' and the ancient period is contrasted with the Medieval Period and this book references the work of Lynn (Townsend) White a fair bit.

I was thinking of buying his paper "Technology and Invention in the Middle Ages" as well as his book "Medieval Technology and Social Change" and I was just wondering if they're worth the time.
