This is actually an idea I've had for a while. without giving away too much; basically, Kurt doesn't kill himself in 1994, and shortly thereafter, he becomes involved in politics.

Firstly, the title is a reference to a line from the song All Apologies, and I don't think it's meant to be literal in the first place - given Cobain's anti-establishment attitude, it's likely just making fun of homophobes.

And secondly, as others have pointed out, surrogacy is a thing.

Chapter I - Teenage Angst Has Paid Off Well

April 5th 1994, 9:35 AM

Kurt Cobain was at the end of his rope, preparing to write a suicide note and take his own life with a shotgun - when a campaign ad for the 1994 midterms came on television - it was attacking Clinton and promoting Gingrich and the Republicans - Cobain saw this ad and thought to himself; "I bet I could beat those Nazis", just then, Cobain's phone ringed, it was Nirvana's drummer, Dave Grohl. "Hey Kurt, I wanted to talk to you about Nirvana's future" he said plainly. Grohl went on to say that he felt the band was running out of ideas and articulated his belief that "Grunge is dead", he said there were two good options in his opinion - either disband the group, or puruse a different kind of music. After much thinking, Kurt said he would make a decision on Nirvana's future within the next week. Just then, Courtney Love walked into the house and saw Cobain writing his suicide note - angered and crying, she pleaded with him to stop and to not kill himself - after some talking, she convinced him to put away the shotgun and tear up the suicide note, she called Cobain's doctor to try and set up an appointment to deal with his depression and drug issues. Feeling a new purpose in light of the Gingrich attack ad he had viewed on TV earlier in the morning, Cobain began to joke to friends about running for congress, but as time went on, he became increasingly intrigued by the thought of a candidacy - he realized that he could reach out to youth voters and offer a progressive, anti-establishment view that was sorely needed. Will Cobain run? Will Nirvana disband? Will Krist Novoselic progressively get balder and balder? All this and more will be answered with time.
