So now we know multiple facts.

The First is that Comey's original basis to go public on the investigation was a forged Russian document:

The Second is that Comey mentioned he took polling into account when he went public on the Weiner investigation at the last minute:

The Third is that the focus on the Trump-Russia probe delayed the FBI's investigation of Weiner's emails for about a month:

It should be emphatically clear by now that a normal republican would not have benefited from a last-minute Comey announcement, because especially as per the last article that would not have been chronologically possible. A normal republican would not have had their campaign investigated in such a fashion, which means that even if the Weiner story came out, it would've been leaked in September instead of late October.

Wow! So Trump's ties to Russia did indeed help him if it's in a more indirect and self-defeating way than previously thought. Clinton probably could have recovered from Comey doing what he did in September, before the debates. That time was already pretty rough for her, and when she walloped Trump in the debates she managed to overcome that slump...until the Comey incident of late October. I didn't think it was possible for the 2016 election to somehow become even more of an infuriating disaster.
