For my part:

1. Mark Warner
2. Evan Bayh
3. John Edwards
-----------------------------------

If the Democratic Party goes with some left-winger, I will not hesitate to vote Republican if they choose a decent enough candidate like Mike Huckabee or John McCain, among others.

All GOP people should pick Hillary and Gore, they are the far-left the country hates.

Also, both are open primaries, which is why I didn't put in an "I'm not a Democrat" or "I'm not a Republican" option in either poll.

1. Gore
2. Feingold
3. Warner

Wouldn't mind Edwards either.  The rest of the choices do little for me.

1. Warner
2. Richardson
3. Bayh
4. Biden

Any of those candidates would be great, though Biden is more fitting as a VP candidate, paired with Warner, perhaps.  (To add experience and foreign policy gravitas)

What do you have against "left-wingers"??

Huckabee and McCain are both strong conservatives.

I like those two the most as they have demonstrated time and again that they can reach across the partisan divide and work convincingly alongside Democrats to fashion legislation.  They are conservative, but unlike this administration, they are not so partisan.  I hope they remain as such.

They are a liability to our efforts in expanding our base and appealing to socially conservative voters who might find our positions on economic issues appealing were it not for the unfortunate perception that Democrats want to take away their guns, support gay marriage, scorn their faith, favor abortions on demand, and are anti-military, as demonstrated in efforts to boot military recruiters off college campuses and high schools.

Obviously Gore or Feingold.

They are conservative, but unlike this administration, they are not so partisan.  I hope they remain as such.

I don't think either would be quite as bad as Bush, but remember that W had quite a reputation for working with (conservative) Democrats in Texas before entering the White House. I would be surprised if Huckabee didn't move further to the right, and McCain has already become more partisan in preparation for his presidential bid.

were it not for the unfortunate perception that Democrats want to take away their guns, support gay marriage, scorn their faith, favor abortions on demand

Silly populism is no way to win elections, either. The Dems should write off the authoritarian South (Virginia and Florida are the obvious exceptions), and target the libertarian West. If the national Democrats unequivocally come out in opposition of gun control- which could realistically happen in the near future- they could split the Rocky Mountain West wide open.

as demonstrated in efforts to boot military recruiters off college campuses and high schools.

Thank Jebus for that! My socialist mother signed the form prohibiting release of my personal information to recruiters back in high school, and I am eternally grateful. Kids shouldn't be harassed by the military at school.

Wow I wish we had that option back when i was still in high school.  I was actually interested in joining the military prior to the daily phone calls, coming to my house during dinner, following me to the mall, and stalking me at work.  At first i was nice, then i just had to tell them to F off.  No way was i gonna join the military after all that crap, those idiotic recruiters ruined it.

Here's my top 5:

1. Warner
2. Bayh
3. Gore (he would have to be his '80s and '90s self, though)
4. Joe Biden
5. Richardson

As with Maverick, if Hillary is nominated, I either will vote for the Republican (if he's palatable enough) or not vote at all.  As for Feingold, he'd be a good vice-presidential candidate.
