This method I would consider being ok for the federal government to fund, as long as it is proven that the host embryo is not damaged and can grow up to be a healthy human being.

"New method makes embryo-safe stem cells"

A biotechnology company has developed a new way of creating stem cells without destroying human embryos, billing it as a potential solution to a contentious political and ethical debate.

"This will make it far more difficult to oppose this research," said Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technology, the Alameda, Calif., company that reported the new method.

Stem cell researchers were impressed by the new technique's ability to produce two robust lines of stem cells without requiring the destruction of embryos, and a White House spokeswoman called it encouraging. However, few on either side believe the new procedure will end the long-running bitter impasse over the science.

I favor of bans on restricitng science for "ethics" reasons.

I wonderi f there's a way to fatally and painfulyl extract stem cells from alvie people. IF so I say we use that on the creationists.

Actually, if that were the case, I would recommend using it on the people who are for the method of destroying embryo's.  After all, if they think it's good enough for the embryo, it's obviously good enough for themselves.

Since when are embryos even remotely on par with humans?

Unless the embryo is the product of rape, right?

There are many procedures that are painful, but necessary.  I believe extracting bone marrow is one.

This an announcement I had been hoping to see. I've been waiting since some preliminary information on the technique appeared over a year ago. For those who oppose IVF, the technique doesn't solve much, but for those who do not oppose IVF, but do oppose embryo destruction, this is a welcome result.

I've read up on this and its actually very inefficient. Apparently scraping some good ol' stem cells of a screaming embryo is still more efficient. I actually prefer it that way. Being a godless liberal and all. Its really fun to here the little embryos scream and beg for their lives before we brutally kill them. You should try it some time.

The key problem has been in establishing new lines that can be used for research. It doesn't take many successes, even with an inefficient technique, to greatly improve the number of viable lines for federally-funded research.
