Why the expected gains in Oklahoma?  Interesting, though...cool thread idea.

I just see TX eventually becoming almost overpopulated and some of those people looking for open space will move to OK

Not bad, but I think GA is a little too big.

90% red - no one lives there, or not in the union anymore
70% red - nearly uninhabited
50% red - large population decrease
50% blue - moderate population increase
70% blue - major population increase
90% blue - huge population increase

Terrorists from Saudi Arabia and Egypt detonate multiple giant thermonuclear warheads in NY, DC, and VA.  Those states, along with MA, CT, RI, NJ, WV, MD, and DE, become completely uninhabitable due to the resulting radioactive fallout.  The states of ME, NH, VT, PA, OH, KY, TN, and NC are nearly entirely evacuated shortly thereafter either to Canada or to neighboring states in fear of their becoming contaminated with radiation as well.  The capital of the United States, with DC completely obliterated, is hastily moved to Omaha, Nebraska.  This results in a massive population influx into Nebraska as people go there in an attempt to feel safe and secure in frightening times.

Taking advantage of the mass confusion caused by these brazen terrorist attacks, the Mexican army launches a surprise invasion of TX, which falls due to a lack of preparedness and due to a complete lack of communication that results in an inability to mobilize an effective force to counteract the invasion.  The Mexican army continues through NM, AZ, NV, and CA, before a ceasefire is finally signed.  The conquered states are added to the territory owned by Mexico.  In conjunction with these attacks, Russia invades and reclaims AK, and Japan conquers HI.  Given that most of CA had not been completely occupied at the time of the ceasefire, most of the citizens of northern CA flee to WA or OR.

Meanwhile, while global warming is eventually taken under control, the people of Louisiana were still dumb enough still to inhabit their state before that occurs, and a massive hurricane floods New Orleans yet again.  With Mexico at their doorstep to the west and huge floods to their east, most of the population is all like "screw this" and hightails it to Arkansas.

Because federal funding to the states was almost entirely cut off in light of the terrorist attacks, Mississippi quickly descends to be on par with your average African country in terms of literacy, health, and education, so almost all of its citizens flee for greener pastures shortly thereafter.  Because the only people who were unable to flee were the poorest of the poor, Mississippi began to further resemble your average African country as a result.

Meanwhile, Raul Castro turns out to be a real jerk in Cuba as he takes over from Fidel at last, so the entire population moves to Florida, making it the new most populous state by far.

Finally, ID, MT, WY, ND, and SD see a big population outpour as all of their residents finally wake up to the fact that their states suck and are dumb.

Accounting for all sorts of different things, like rising sea levels due to global warming, the probable admission of Puerto Rico within the next century, etc., and I say it's not even worth trying.

Although I enjoyed Gabu's story.

I very much enjoyed Gabu's story so I got my own.

In 2025, NJ is finally overcome with pollution and most of state becomes inhabital yet remaining rest moves to NY.  A few years later citing irreconcible differnces, VT and MA secede from the union and become provinces of Canada.  Rhode Island soon follows suit along with NY.  People willing to escape make a move to Pennsylvania.  The San Andres fault line collapses plummeting CA into the ground, killing virtually the entire population of the state.  Afraid of what will happen to them, people in OR and NV begin to slowly move away to Midwestern States.  In 2042, Hurricane Holish**tt comes through and destroys the entire Gulf Coast including FL.  People continue to move to the Midwest.

The nat'l capital is moved to Bismarck, ND after Washington D.C. is an accidental nuclear explosion destorying almost all states around it.

In 2100, the map looks like this:

Even with less states in the Union it doesn't explain the drop in electoral votes

In the year 2100 the US will not contain the same 50 states that it currently does so projecting the EV makeup is impossible.  Here is a rundown of all the states that will be joining and leaving the US over the next 100 years.

Due to the ever increasing population of California and its large geographic size, the state government is unable to effectively meet the needs of all of its citizens.  It is decided that the state will be divided into three new states.  The Historic counties of the once proposed State of Jefferson become the actual State of Jefferson in the North.  In the South.  San Bernardino, Kern, and San Luis Opisbo Counties become the northern most counties of the State of North Mexico.  However Because L.A. is a horrible place most of the rest of North Mexico trends Republican the State of Los Angelos is also soon born encompassing all of LA County.  An East-West cultural divide quickly splits what is left of the original California into the States of West Nevada and Coastal California.

In New York, Long Island does what it has been threatening to do since forever ago and becomes it's own state.

In Texas, the legislature finally acts on its ability to divide the state into five after it becomes too large and several new states are born.  The Dallas and Houston metros form their own individual states, Austin and San Antonio combine their metros into one state, the Southernmost (and Democratic most) portion breaks off, and the Western portion is all that is left.  El Paso and the Panhandle get along poorly so El Paso leaves taking all the counties West of the Pecos River with it.

Puerto Rico eventually becomes a state and 5 new House members are added to accommodate it.

While all this is occurring Alaska leaves the Union to receive more representation in federal government and joins Canada.  North Dakota and Michigan's UP soon follow.
