I would have been OK with never - but now we know when the Hollywood Lawyer/Lobbyist Bush want-to-be is going to enter into the race.

Wow, the lazy asshole is waiting until the first day that he can declare without having to report contributions until January 31st. He really has extreme contempt for the American people. You'd think he could have chosen Sept. 7th or something to be less obvious about it.

Also he gets to avoid and overshadow the Sept. 5th Republican debate.

Yeah that was the big issue I believe. His handlers know how important his first debate performance will be and they also know he is very likely to bomb. This is a guy who doesn't even understand the issues let alone have actual positions on them.

At this point it doesn't matter, he won't be the nominee.

Why do we always find out when someone's going to do something a week before they actually do it?

What's the point in the actual announcement in that case?

I've never understood it myself.

So very true. Maybe now we can start guessing just how few votes he'll get. Tongue

I figure he'll place second or third in Iowa and SC, much to the disappointment of his campaign.

To put it in SAT terms: Fred Thompson is to 2007 as Wesley Clark is to 2003

Overrated candidate who got started way too late (not that he had much of a chance anyway).

Thompson skipped the Ames straw poll, and in so doing, transfered all possible momentum to the other Man from Hope.

This was a huge mistake. The Republicans have been looking for a "real conservative," which is what Fred was supposed to represent.  The straw poll was his best opportunity to become that candidate.

He should have entered when he hit his peak in July. There's not really much point in running when you've already reashed your maximum potential.

This scares me as a Democrat because Huckabee would no doubt be a much stronger oppenent in a general election.

And considering that Huckabee just picked up a Union endorsement (co-endorsement with Killary), you might be on to something.

It's worth noting here that Huckabee was the only Republican to show up and request said endorsement.
