I'll change my vote to nay, then, such that the Vice President may vote and incur the wrath or endearment of Senator Ebowed.

This is easily the most dangerous bill yet and I would like to thank Earl, Sam, Brandon, Moderate, and Verily for voting against it and hope Jas will do the same.

Query: The amendment on immigrants with HIV doesn't seem to be in the bill as presented. Was this oversight or was it overridden?

lol
An interesting basis on which to cast one's vote. Myself and the Member for District 5 tend to be in agreement on most matters ideologically, if not in strict agreement on matters of policy and I strongly suspect my voting record in the Senate will back that up.

I think it's fair to say that our relationship has improved since my trying to impeach his Presidency last year so I'd imagine that even if I were to vote against, wrath would likely be far to strong a word to use in these circumstances.

FTR, I shall be awaiting clarification to my query in the above post before considering this anyhow - as if the amendment was omitted there may be a case for a re-vote.

That was an oversight; I admit I never even saw it when it was first proposed. If the Senators think that this merits a revote, then I will reopen the vote, though I do not expect that the result will differ.

I doubt it will change anyone's vote, but I think for the sake of fairness and good government, we should revote on the proper bill's wording.

Otherwise, I'd think the whole damn thing could just get tossed in court.

FTR...

Open Borders Bill

1. F.L. 14-3, Return to Normalcy Act, is repealed.

My understanding of this (or lack thereof) and my opinions on this haven't changed since I voted on it during the 14th Senate.

2. F.L. 18-8, Illegal Immigrant Act, Section 2, Clause 1 is amended to read: "Any illegal alien who has not been convicted of terrorism charges (military tribunal convictions notwithstanding), nor has been convicted of an offence and sentenced to a term of imprisonment greater than 5 years in duration, may apply for citizenship one month after the passage of this act."

I actually drafted the clause which this proposes to replace. While I understand the reasoning behind this proposal, I'm inclined still to prefer the standing version.

3. F.L. 19-1, Immigration Reform Act of 2007, Sections 15 and 17 are repealed.

I support repealing section 15, but support keeping section 17.

4. No person shall be denied access to public education or emergency health care on the basis of citizenship status.

Support

5. Immigrants may have their immigration fees taken out of their paycheck each pay period. Doing so will give them a 33% decrease on their immigration fees. In order to qualify for the decrease, one must sign up to have at least 50% of their fees taken out of their paycheck in consistent pay periods.

I have no real difficulty with this.

And I support the friendly amendment on HIV immigrants.

So...in short, I support some aspects and don't support others, leaving me rather conflicted and actually quite unsure about the bill overall.

Tally on Final Vote
Aye: 3 (Ebowed; Friz; SoS)
Nay: 5 (Verily; Sensei; Earl; Brandon; Moderate)
Abstain: 1 (Afleitch)
Yet to Vote: 1 (Sam)

With five opposed and one declared abstention, this bill has enough votes to fail. Senators have twenty-four hours to change their votes.

Let me just say that I really hope Senator Ebowed reintroduces Sections 4 and 5 of this bill as a separate piece of legislation, as I wholeheartedly support those two sections.

I can see 5, but why 4?

Well, providing emergency medical care is a no brainer: we have a moral responsibility.  Can we turn away someone who is dying of a heart attack because they don't have their citizenship card?  Turn away someone who's got appendicitis because they're here illegally?

With regard to schooling, I strongly feel that society benefits as a whole by giving people a proper education.  The alternative to allowing public schooling is a entire generation of people living in America who are as dumb as rocks.
