This is surprising. Obama's wide appeal to Republicans, Libertarians and African Americans I thought would allow him to break 40-42% in the nation.

This is surprising. Obama's wide appeal to Republicans, Libertarians and African Americans I thought would allow him to break 40-42% in the nation.

I think 40-42% in Alabama is achievable for Obama. African-American turnout has to be 30% of the total vote and Obama needs to win 95% of this group. He also needs to hold Kerry's share of 20% among Whites though.

If the actual results are:

Whites (70%): McCain - 80%, Obama 20%
African-Americans (30%): Obama - 95%, McCain - 5%

Obama would win exactly 42.5% of the total vote.
