I like to blame the govt for a lot of things.  Fat kids isn't one of them though.  I'm guessing the tub-O-lards and their parents are the main ones to blame (and thankfully, the main ones to suffer).

Maybe because our meat is pumped full of hormones? Ever know anyone that raises chickens on a commercial level Deadman? Did you know that they pump so many hormones into chickens that when the chickens reach full adult size (a full 2-3 months earlier then natural) they often become so fat that their legs break from under them due to their weight.

So it's the farmers fault our kids our fat?  Odd.  Anyway, thank god nobody is forcing anybody to buy chicken from these people.

You haven't researched this much at all, I see.

As a Libertarian, I'd think you'd be able to figure out that the food that is made available to us for purchase has become vastly overfilled with fats, carbohydrates, and calories.

Almost all of it is made of corn or soybeans, and the fact that American farmers are producing more food than ever before per capita, means they have to find a way for us to purchase and eat that food.

I know you think it is individual consumers that should adapting to whatever corporate America decides it must do... but perhaps it is the corn farmers of your state that keep farming corn because they can get a great price for it that is contributing to the problem.. which, guess waht!!?!?  Is caused by overblown subsidies to corporate farmers.

Wouldn't it be nice to see a field of strawberries or apple trees?  Or lettuce?

I'm sure you could grow those things in Nebraska... if farmers had a conscience, that's waht they would grow.  But no, they can get a higher price for corn.  And it's because the government greatly subsidizes and encourages people to grow the stuff.

Yeah, I'm very against corn subsidies (well, all subsidies) and I'm not sure why you keep suggesting I'd be for consumers bending over to the corporations.  I'm suggesting the opposite.  DON'T buy what they tell you to buy.  Make your own smart choices, the information is out there.

Nebraska makes a whopping 11.46% of the corn in the US ranking 3rd.  Guess which state is forth?  I'll give you a hint, Prince calls it home.  cite

Also, we are very limited in what we can grow here.  Ya get less rain the further north and west you go.  Western Nebraska is basically desert.

Joe, how absolutely ridiculous of you to say that.....he had no time.  He was too busy trying to figure out how to conjure up a hurricane to destroy New Orleans because he hates black people.

I agree with the rotten lil kid, Xahar, the parents.

Ah, you're right of course.  I forgot.  The blame actually goes back to Bill Clinton.

The government for subsidizing the sh**t they feed kids in school cafeterias, parents for not having the balls to say no to their kids, and kids, once they're mature enough, for not having the self control to stop consuming so much.

I'd blame the parents first, but I'm willing to bet that most kids in America get 1/6th or more of their meals each year (assuming 180 days of school and assuming they eat school lunch) at their school cafeteria. Such food is loaded with preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, saturated fat, and almost everything else NOT good for you. That's the government's fault at many levels.

I'll admit it - it's my fault kids are fat today. It's all part of my evil plot to make everyone helpless when it comes time to take over the Earth.

You mean it's okay that I feed my daughter a steady diet of fatback bacon and Moulson's?  ;-)

That's weird.  I did post something in response, but it didn't appear.  I've been having some technical problems -- but it's all been away from the Forum.  Hmmm.  Until now?

Anyway --  I said, "You mean there's nothing wrong with me raising my daughter on a diet of fatback bacon and Moulson's?"

Things like fatback, poutine, or Moulsons are not what makes modern americans fat - it is processed snack food and high fructose corn syrup drinks.

Definitely the kids. I guess part of the blame can be placed on the parents too who are too retarded to realize that their child, is, in fact, a chunker. Their obliviousness causes them to give compliments to their lardy children when they should be told "Hey, you're kind of a porker, put down the Ho-Hos and take a jog".

In addition to the points others have made, I'd like to point out environmental factors. So many neighborhoods that are built today are completely unwalkable. Houses are so far from anything worth walking to and because of illogical design, all traffic and stores are diverted to  massive central commercial arteries. Common sense grid design for neighborhoods would help a lot.
