I thought this would be fun. Obviously can't do them all at once as it would create a loooooong thread.

First up 1970

17th June 1970

18th June 1970 - ELECTION DAY

19th June 1970. Nothing to see here folks. The counting was very much in progress

20th June 1970. In true Times style. Forget the polls, forget the shock result. Mr Heath has a cabinet to build that you want to read about on the 8.20 train.

God, the Times has gone downhill. (Trad. c. 1980's)

Interesting that the Times thought that the possible (which turned out to be actual) defeat of Lubbock in Orpington was worthy of the front page.

Labour leads...Labour leads...Labour leads...Conservative cabinet. Tongue

The extraordinary thing is that Labour ever led in the polls that election; if you thought the current Labour government has had a hard time of it in local elections and so on... well...

God, the Times has gone downhill. (Trad. c. 1980's)

On the day that Mr Nixon resigned, Mr Ford took over and Mr Healey set the level of taxable wealth at £100,000

And no Mr Rifkind's Week in sight Smiley

Some attribute that defeat to England going out of the World Cup.
