Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish new year, begins tonight at sundown Smiley

So, to my fellow Jewish posters, Shana Tova.

I'm not Jewish, but I have the Jewishest name ever, so I tend to celebrate these things. It's latke night at Sensei's.

I can assure you mine sounds like I just fell of the truck from the kibbutz.

I occasionally get calls from Jewish groups, and my general answer is, "I'm sure it's a fine organization, but I'm Episcopalian."

Happy New Year, everyone!

That and "You mean Northeast Philadelphia, don't you."

People would probably think I'm Jewish, except I ended up with a very Spanish first name. Not many Jewish men named Santiago. Wink

Being Reform, we don't really have many that I know of, other than going to services at night and in the morning, taking the day off from school/work, and parts of the service like Torah reading, Shofar blowing, etc.

So, it's a pretty low meaning holiday? What I mean is that it's not at as high of a level as Passover.

Actually, it's the second Holiest day of the year.  Passover is more festive, while Rosh Hashanah is more personal; the 10 days between now and Yom Kippur are called the Days of Awe.

One of the customs is to make amends with people for things that have transpired throughout the year. A friend who I had an argument with last week texted me to make sure we were still "cool" since it was Rosh Hashanah and all. I let it go since I didn't care anyway but it seemed so much less sincere that he was reconciling with me because he was supposed to because of a holiday.
