Nixon barely wins in 1960. He wins re-election in 1964 over Hubert Humphrey. Everything has happened that happened in the real 1960-1968, except for all of the Great Society programs.

So can JFK pull off what Nixon did IRL...make a comeback?

No people don't usually run again. By then JFK wouldn't be functional with all the drugs he was on. It is likely that Marilyn Monroe would be his wife and that just asks for controversies. That is if JFK were still alive in 1968.

Were such a scenario to happen, Kennedy would smoke Lodge.

Lodge was a rather unenthusiastic candidate OTL, and with decades of Republican dominance, plus an escalation of the Vietnam war (Lodge certainly would have done this), Kennedy mops the floor with him.

I like these "what ifs" that I have been reading.  And this one is interesting because it would have never happened.  Although Nixon pulled the comeback (losing in 1960 and winning in 1968), it is safe to say that it would not have happened this way for JFK.  The Kennedy family, and I mean all of them, poured everything they had in winning in 1960.  The Kennedys would not be denied.  RESEARCH the West Virginia Primary in May of 1960 against Hubert Humphrey.  Also, the general election returns in Texas, and specifically in Illinois.  Vice President Nixon could have demanded a recount but chose not to.  To me, it was "all or nothing."  No need to wait until 1964 or even later, 1968.  THEY WERE NOT TO BE DENIED.   I could not say it any plainer than that.  What we know now about the health of President Kennedy,  is sad and dangerous.  Sad because he endured all this and dangerous because he held it from us.  He knew he had been given his last rites three times (from age 2 in 1919, also in 1947, and again in 1954), and considered, and lived each day to be his last.  ** For the record, the fourth time that he was given his last rites was at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, on November 22, 1963. **   I could not see him running in 1968, still a Senator from Massachusetts.  In 1968, his health would be worse and who is to say that he would have died of these afflictions before 1968. Once again, 1960 was "all or nothing" for the Kennedy Family.
