I think the party with the best record in government, which remains most true to their ideals, and which I would most happily vote for is the New Zealand Labour Party, but I'd also be perfectly happy to vote for their Nationals, but the party I would be most likely to vote for just about every election would be the Democrats, largely because of the alternative. Canadian Liberals and Australian Labor are both rudderless and ideologically confused, and British Labour is still in the process of rebuilding.

For me, the order goes:

NZ Labour
UK Labour
US Democrats
AUS Labor
CAN Liberals

...but all are actually pretty close in my esteem, excluding the Canadians.

I suppose that once you could argue that the Canadian Liberals were the further left party of the two main parties even if they weren't actually of the left, but now that they're in third place even that argument is gone.

Of the choices listed, British Labour. Labor is overtly controlled by nebulous elites and New Zealand Labour gave us Rogernomics.

I still feel that the Liberals are the primary non-Conservative party, but I did seriously consider putting in  the NDP. I figure though that this poll includes a strong element of the history of the parties, and historically the Libs are the governing Leftist party in Canada.

The Party that I'm a member of. I would place NZ Labour second, despite Rogernomics tarnishing an otherwise wonderful record (I am going to be so depressed later this month). Joint second would be the NDP, if they were included. Then the ALP. I think maybe the Irish Labour Party about here as well. The a massive, yawning gap...

a) I've explained my reasoning;

b) Yes, they are.

UK Labour
NDP
NZ Labour
ALP
...
...
...
Democrats

UK Labour wins for having the best history, though maybe they should lose some points for the whole NewLabour Period. Democrats obviously have both the worst history and the worst actual policies of the bunch.

Well, they had Roosevelt, Truman and LBJ, but nearly 100 years of segregationism kind of anihilates them.

The NDP should be in this thread as the Liberals are not left-wing

a) I've explained my reasoning;

b) Yes, they are.

If you go back 30+ years or so, sure. Lately? Hardly. Sure, maybe if you listen to what they campaign on versus what they seem to actually do, you might have an argument, but that party is in third place, has no real cohesive message whatsoever and really hasn't for a decade, and even if certain elements of the Canadian Liberals may flirt with left-wing politics from time to time, they are not an out-and-out left-wing or centre-left party in the way that the NDP is. The fact that they're not included in this poll is preposterous. I can't believe that the NDP scores official opposition and the Liberals get their worst showing in their entire history, and the NDP still get treated as if they don't really exist some people. Good lord.

I'm no expert on New Zealand, but didn't their policies keep them in relative poverty for a very long time?

No: New Zealand in the Post-War era had one of the highest standards of living in the world and had no serious problems with poverty or unemployment. Thus the The Half Gallon Quarter Acre Pavlova Paradise. The country was something of an economic basket case by the early 1980s, but that was mostly a result of Britain joining the EEC in the early 1970s (which completely undermined the traditional structure of the New Zealand economy) and because of mismanagement, most notably under the Muldoon government, rather than because of the socialist policies that instigated the era.
