Think this accurately reflects the state of energy in the US? Which states would be swing states if this became America's dominant political issue?

Having actually seen data on this topic for a scholarly article I'm writing, that map is way off. The most used renewable energy source is hydroelectric, and that is the only renewable energy source that makes up the plurality of any energy production in any state. The state with the most non-hydro renewable energy production as a percentage is Iowa followed by South Dakota and North Dakota (wind power makes up most of that). Those are the only three states where it breaks 10% of energy production for the latest data available.

Including hydro, here is a map with the alternative energy as a percent of all energy generated by state in Atlas shades (white are >10%):



Here is without hydro on a different scale (due to much smaller percentages):



In terms of raw kWhrs generated for non-hydro renewables (also not Atlas scaled):
