Among the most speculated Democratic candidates to challenge Corbett in 2014 is former Congressman Joe Sestak, who ran a strong campaign in the uphill year of 2010 and came much closer than expected against Pat Toomey. Sestak is pretty liberal, a veteran, from a light blue (possibly purple depending on what 2016 is like) state, and a strong campaigner. If he wins the 2014 gubernatorial race, is he a contender in the veepstakes?

This.

He'd be a good choice for a person like that though.

This,

Yes he would make a strong VP candidate, and he did come very close to winning in 2010.

The biggest downside is that he'd theoretically only have 2 years as Governor under his belt.

Yes. Swing State Governor with four years in Congress (even if it wasn't very recent) and a respected military career.

He's a good running mate for anyone. But a better running mate for a female, African-American or Hispanic-American candidate.

That.

I regret supporting Spected back in 2010. Sestak is such a great politician.

Former Congressman, never elected to higher office -- just couldn't win in the Suckerpunch election of 2010. I don't ordinarily like the prospects of any VP nominee who has not been a Governor or Senator.

But -- he has experience as a high-ranking military officer. Navy admirals don't have the record of spectacular success in winning the Presidency or Vice-Presidency that Army generals have -- there just are far fewer admirals than generals.

He could be the Democrats' answer to Dick Cheney without the vices even if he were never elected to the Governorship of Pennsylvania. But if he is Governor of Pennsylvania in 2016 he might be too important to winning the state of Pennsylvania to be a VP nominee.

This, though more with women. There's such a big push right now to have a woman on the ticket in 2016. A Clinton/Sestak ticket would be very, very strong.

He'll be 64 on election day 2016.  Seems kind of old to be a running mate for the 69 year old Hillary Clinton.

Then again, septuagenarian Bob Dole picked the then-61 year old Jack Kemp as his running mate, so you never know.

I've always liked older, more experienced candidates as VP's than younger ones to excite the base. Younger candidates running on excitement rather than actual accomplishments really frustrates me.
