I made three maps for possible referendums on the Illinois ballot. The first is a marriage referendum defining marriage as only a man and a woman. It is unlikely that this would get on the ballot since the majority in the Senate supports gay marriage legalization. The second is medical marijuana, of which could be on the ballot at some point and already has overwhelming support in the state. The third is recreational marijuana, which is a long way off and would fail in the state right now, at least in my opinion. Here we go (constructive criticism is welcome):

Marriage Amendment: Should marriage be defined as only one man and one woman?

Medical Marijuana: Should marijuana be legal for medical purposes only?

Recreational Marijuana: Should marijuana be legal in the State of Illinois?

Where would you put the %'s for those three maps? Also how do you think the Gay Marriage vote will go in the Illinois House?

As of now, I would say it would look something like this (looking at recent polling):

Marriage Amendment
Yes 40%
No 60%

Medical Marijuana
Yes 70%
No 30%

Recreational Marijuana
Yes 40%
No 60%

As for the current bill, the odds don't look good in the House. The majority leader is saying the bill is several votes short, so he is delaying the vote. I heard that something like 20 Democratic congressmen were on the fence, so there is hope, but it doesn't look great.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. Minnesotans seem to be very socially liberal, while in Illinois you have the North Side of Chicago that is a hotbed for social liberalism and the rest of the liberals tend to care mostly about economics.

That is actually what is holding up the bill. Chicago Democrats from the South Side are planning to vote NO because of their constituents' opinions. Same goes for downstate Dems.
