Thinking about what Illinois will look like geographically in 2016. It is interesting as this map changes from Democrat strongholds in Cook County and Little Egypt with Republican strongholds in the suburbs and central Illinois (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/88/ELECTION_DU_GOUVERNEUR_EN_2002_DANS_L%27ILLINOIS.png) to Democrats taking the suburbs and NW Illinois while the GOP wins over Little Egypt and even some of those long-Democrat St. Louis suburbs (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/fe/Illinois_US_Presidential_Election_Results_County_2012.svg/187px-Illinois_US_Presidential_Election_Results_County_2012.svg.png).

Here are some of my predictions. The colors on my maps are, of course, inverted from what the maps I posted above are, as I used this site's color code while the ones above did not.

Clinton-Christie

Clinton-Bush

Clinton-Walker

Clinton-Santorum

Biden-Christie

The Democrat wins in every scenario, btw.

We're getting to the point where Cook is one sided enough that a Democrat can win statewide narrowly by just winning that one county.  Pat Quinn basically did it in 2010.

It isn't really necessary though, considering D gains in the Collar Counties.

Most definitely. I still think the layout is interesting, though. Illinois has been compared to being a mini USA in the idea that it has a little bit of everything, and so you are able to see the southern Democrats down in Little Egypt going from Dem to Republican, the Midwestern Republicans in the central part of the state holding their ground, the suburbs becoming more Democrat, and the city putting up big Democrat margins as usual.
