Are all so very poignant now. Actually all kind of poignant even by his standards.

He kept his classic style till the end:

It does make sense that these rurals wouldn't care what he did to some nasty New Jerseyites.  (nasty as in from their point of view, not mine)

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein once said that American-style capitalism is excellent at producing wealth and poor at distributing it.

Actually the reason capitalism appears to be 'excellent at producing wealth' is that it is consuming people.  Its net result is in reality not positive or productive at all.

I really like this one where he made a valid point and something that I don't think anyone on the forum would disagree with:

I must confess I cannot conceive of anything more important than myself, Nathan.

And it is precisely in holding that view that you ensure that almost anybody else on the planet is more important and deserving of respect and concern than you are, opebo.

My friends can't have coffee with 'everybody else on the planet', Nathan.  But I do get your point, and understand this mode of thinking.  I just find it a bit fantastical.  Somewhere in between our two extremes is no doubt the 'happy life'. Cheesy

This one shows that for all the way he was treated he was really just a nerd like the rest of us:

I'm on holiday at the beach, and I find myself thinking often of heading back home to play Civilisation 5! Sad eh?

This one is REALLY bittersweet:

This is the best showing I recall for Leip, maybe it's because he actually showed up for a few minutes.

Well... I voted FF because I'm still here.

This is a rather poignant and fitting one to have as your second to last post:

Someone asked for a Simple Truths tally:

Placed in order:

Twenty-One: Lief

Twenty: Opebo

Cheesy

While it would have been gratifying (particularly in context) to win this one as well as the Good Post Gallery, I couldn't have been beaten by a more respected colleague.

And this one...what a way to go out:

Remarkably stable - we can always rely on this one.

I do have to say that he went out in decent style. Those are some good posts. He had a good end. It's a shame that his previous thousand and whatever pages couldn't have been as well-considered.

I noted a marked change in his style before he was banned, as though he was doing his best not to ruffle any more feathers.

Wow, this honestly makes me a little sad. He was such a fascinating voice.

Nice work, BRTD. Great commentary.

This reminded me to post some of my opebo favorites from the music thread. Eclectic selection as always. I shared his enthusiasm for unearthing things weird, wacky and wonderful on the YouTub and so shall I continue, albeit with a heavy heart.

Oh yeah, I loved his posts in there. I became much more interested in The Residents after he posted this one:

I'll always think of him when I listen to that one.
