As a Democrat, I would pick Pence.  Even though he's no better ideologically-speaking than Trump, I would pick Pence because 1)his temperament is not quite so obnoxious/annoying and 2)he'd probably be the weaker general election candidate.

I still hate them both though, and hopefully both will be out public office on January 20, 2021.

Pence would be easier to beat and would not so disgustingly corrode the foundations of free and fair democracy.

Trump. He's much easier to beat so long we don't nominate somebody with the second highest unfavorability rating for a Presidential candidate and isn't seen as untrustworthy by 2/3's of the American people again.

Pence would be a tougher challenger. Liked by the Trump wing (Trump picked him after all), liked by many reluctant Romney->Clinton/abstained/third Party voters, doesn't say incendiary comments 24/7, doesn't scare off minority voters the way Trump did, from the Midwest, etc.

Pence would obviously be preferable as President over Trump though.

Pence is absolutely easier to beat. All those Obama voters who flipped to Trump wouldn't flip to a theocrat like Pence.

The Midwest has been trending Republican as a result of deunionization for decades now and Bush II came incredibly close to flipping a lot of Midwestern states in both 2000 and 2004.

Worst case scenario in a close election Pence holds onto Wisconsin, Iowa, and Ohio.

Trump. He can't bullsh**t and bulldoze his way out of what comes his way as an incumbent. He also hopefully won't have an opponent that is highly problematic and doesn't contest key states until the day of the election.

I agree with this entirely. I would add that while Pence is no better ideologically, he is at least competent and wouldn't be an embarrassment internationally. I believe the image of the U.S. has nose dived as a result of Trump's election, and it would be different under a President Pence. I think Trump is less competent than the average american picked at random to be President (I genuinely believe this). I disagree with Pence on policy, but believe he would be able to at least handle the job in a professional manner.

I agree, too. Pence is the better candidate to beat.

If Pence is the Republican nominee then it means that Trump has been deposed in some fashion by the congressional GOP and the party is in the middle of a civil war. The D candidate would sail to victory.

Bush nearly sweeps the same crucial states as Trump in the Midwest but because some Greatest Generation folks who grew up voting for Democrats hadn't died off yet, Trump is this amazing candidate and the only Republican who could win Midwestern states??  LOL, we have more voters than Obama-Trump voters...

Pence. It's important that a potential president have at least some experience in government, however much I disagree with them.

Pence, because if Pence is the nominee it's likely that something has gone horribly wrong for Trump.
